I was given this block by a friend if I just took it off his hands for him. It's the casting number I want but there is a chip in it. Is this salvageable or am I taking this to the scrap yard?

Looks like a goner to me, you can see where the wear from piston travel is.

Some of the best running engines I've fixed are the ones I just slap together. ive pieced together way worse than that in my brothers boat and it runs perfect...

That's interesting, I have a block that has that same chip in the same spot. I'll snap a pic tonight. Mine is way through a rebuild.
