I have a 1994 1500 Chevy Silverado and I am doing an engine swap either to a 383 or just go with a new 350 but was not sure how much the trans can handle in terms of HP&TQ? (Horsepower and Torque)

Nv4500?

my then teen brother broke the one behind his magnum 5.9 crate motored 93, but he breaks things. I had to replace the open diff rear with a ram chargers posi, because he broke that first, then he twisted the main shaft in the nv4500…

if you weren’t ragging on it, I’d hazard a guess it can handle 450ftlbs Easily.

edit, googled amd it says rated for 460… so I wasn’t far off.
however I’ve seen many manuals rated for 350 ftlb handle double or even triple that that if you don’t abuse them during shifts, and aren’t rock climbing them When you get lots of shock load.

As said...WHICH "manual transmission"? There's at least two, and the NV4500 is the heavy-duty unit that probably isn't installed in 1500s.

The light-duty one NV3500 (but with a different name in earlier years) has a poor reputation; but I've never owned one or known anyone who has.

I had a 450+ hp/tq 383 stroker in front of a nv3500, no issues. Did explode the govlock once and strip the ring gear another time in the k1500 rearend, that is the weak link.

It's far more dependent on driving style than on what the internet recommends. If you're planning on clutch dumps and bang shifting, an NV4500 might not be enough. If you're consistently smooth on the clutch you can probably get by with an NV3500.
