ok, just making sure you didn't introduce a vacuum leak if the solenoid was pulling in some gasses before and now pulling clean air.

Depending on how it was blocked, I would still verify you didn't cause a vacuum leak.

I'm confused - your 89 doesn't have metal tubes for the EGR, it only has a vacuum hose from the solenoid to the EGR.

Are you sure you're not talking about the A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor). Are the tubes you're talking about going from a pump on the right side bottom front of the engine to one port (#s 1 & 2) on each header? That can be disconnected and the vacuum hose plugged, you shouldn't have any driveability issues with it.

Here's the Summit Racing G9015 headers with A.I.R. You can see the header port and the "smog" pump's port on the passenger side.

Here's the EGR.

Even if air and EGR aren't hooked up the truck should still run. Were the plugs removed to install the headers? If not OP may have cracked a porcelain or 2 and ruined some plugs. Or maybe didn't seat the plug wires back in properly? Messed up the firing order putting it back together? Not much else to mess up on a header install. And with it being an 89 a vacuum leak is only going to act like the throttle being cracked.
