Hey guys, im only 16... So i don't know much when it comes to loans, banking, etc.. But heres my story summed up:

I Got a job a few days ago, I have a bank account, etc. I get payed 7.5 an hour, which is what most of everyone gets payed in my school. Well, i have an issue.

I got the job to hopefully save up some money for a lift and tires for my truck, with the tires and lift and everything, its going to be around 1900$ for everything. So i was so excited to get this job, worked 2 days already, made 90$, extremely happy. Well.....

All 4 of the tires on my truck are bald and need replaced, 2 of which are leaking air and have nails in them. I was hoping i would be able to work everyday of the week for a few months and get the money, but from what my manager said, i was going to be working about 3 days a week.

The issue: I need tires NOW. I thought it could wait but it cant, and no way in hell will it pass inspection. I also can afford to drop hundreds into a new set when i have no money atm. I have to air up my back tires everyday because they are leaking so bad. I would plug them, but i have no tread on them.

My Question: Will getting a loan for a lift kit and tires be possible? and if so, has anyone on here done it and know the prices? I make enough money to pay a couple hundred a month, but i can't drive my truck until it gets new tires. Because im stuck driving my dad's car to and having to air up my truck's tires when i need to drive it. So ANY help would be appreciated..

Thanks everyone and have a nice day.

Not really for someone of your age, without any credit. Plus with interest rates now adays, you would end up paying quite a bit extra. I recommend getting a nice set of used tires off craigslist or something, and saving up for the 'wants'. A lift kit is nice, but not worth taking out a loan for. You might want that stuff now, but you'll regret it once you see how much extra it would cost. And it would be almost impossible without a very good credit-worthy cosigner.

ok here goes..... don't take out a loan to mod your truck, bad idea. the interest rate by the time you finally get it paid off, you will probably gotten close to paying double for the things your wanting. as far as tires go find something cheap on craigslist or go to a used tire place 30 or so bucks a tire and your set. the bottom line your 16 its probably your first job and your working three days a week DON'T get a loan for petty things it will come back to bite you later.... I promise.

Instead of a loan, find a shop that will let you make payments. If you're close to me, I could suggest a place that might let you.

let me clear it up don't finance mods on your truck. yes there's guys on here that have good jobs and can afford it but I promise at 7.5 an hour three days a week you'll be making a mistake. right now your about to be entering a financially critical stage of your life, its far easier to ruin your credit than fix it. anyway I'm not your daddy so do what you want this is solely my two cents.

I would suggest Craiglist. Sometimes people are desperate to just get rid of stuff. I got all four of my 305 70 r16 Bighorns for 450 dollars and they were brand new. They didnt fit the guys truck and he needed tires. Hopefully you can find a great deal too

yea call some tire shops and have them save a set of used tires for you. as long as they hold air and no wires poking through they'll be fine for the moment.

Well I know a place that can get you 4 used tires for about $35 a piece, but that was when I had my Escort. I havent gotten tires for my Suburban yet.

Get super cheap rollers(wheels and tires) off craigslist($2-300). Save up your money to mod your truck, buy new tires, sell the old ones for almost what you put in. Remember one of your fellow students could hit and run and total your truck while texting, and you would be FD paying on something you don't have.

Can you borrow a couple hundred from your dad so you do not drive his car around? Any of your neighbors have yard/house maintenance they need done?(great weekend job, tax free as long as you stay small enough, and don't haul for money)

Since you are 16(still a minor) I am pretty sure you legally could not get a loan without a cosigner, sorry for putting the Damper on.

Remember be thankful you have a truck, be thankful your dad lets your drive his car, be thankful and proud of yourself you have a job(your still training for a few weeks, and could be gone tomorrow).

Just an FYI I have spent ~8k(apparently I fd up somewhere, not sure where...:banghead:), this year on gas and repairs ins etc, and that excludes the 400 a month i pay in payments and insurance on my bike, not trying to be a dick, but i know when i was 16, 200 was a lot of money and i felt balling, however when you have to buy tires, gas, insurance, cell, lunch, date money it goes way to quick. Skip the loan and struggle through, you should learn a couple lessons about managing your money in the process. I personally like the feeling of the cash in my pocket/bank and not having to give it away immediately because i owe someone money.
