The cheap chinese fuel pump left me stranded yesterday. So a roll back ride and a more expensive chinese pump it runs. I thought the wacky gauge was due to the old pump. Not. Why in the world would stepping on the brakes make the gauge jump?

So using a higher dollar pump wouldn't make the gauge jump with brake application?

For a mildly built TBI, or carbed engine, that may work. But not on a Vortec (needs 60PSI min) or a well built TBI. IIRC the EP385 is rated 155Lph @ 65PSI so, I would go with the Walbro 255LPH one to ensure enough flow.
I wondered that to, so I contacted them:

The pump works flawlessly in my 5.7 Vortec, they also confirmed fitment for my truck.

That's cool. How about its flow? Seems to me it's still not enough. When I'm running up to 90% injector duty cycle @20 PSI on WOT I'm a little Leary - I may be wrong, I just want the peace of mind I have enough pump down there. :waytogo:

It can handle 120psi, my 5.7 Vortec requires 63psi. Not sure I’m following you.
