If you have a 1500, probably under 7500 lbs, it should be on the glovebox sticker.

Since most 3/4 ton's were also under 7500, I'm nearly positive that's the right answer, it's referring to the GVRW, and as far as I know, they never ever used the larger IFS diff in a half ton, although 3/4's went both ways.

Look at the drive side door there is a info placard (sticker) that has the vin tire size and gvw on it
