Soo dumb noob question. What year 3500 dually rear ends came drum and which came disc?? I have a 2000 c3500 which has drums and I just bought a rear end from a guy saying it came off a 97 c3500 and it’s disc? Much confusion.

Only 400 one tons that I know of, that got disc brakes on the rear, are 3500HDs which are a whole different animal than the regular, even dually, one tons. IIRC the GMT 800(99-06,07 classic) got rear discs. Only proper experience I have with this generation is an '06 AWD Burb (Yukon XL Denali) half ton. It has rear discs which I have worked on, but they're on a half ton platform.

Correct. No GMT400 at all came from factory with rear disc except the 3500HD and that's not a rear end you could just swap right into a regular 3500. There's some degre of confusion out there because a lot of people refer to "regular" 3500's as 3500HD's. So that rear end that OP has with rear disc, if it's 8 lug, it's either a non-GMT400 rear, or it has some aftermarket disc kit on it. If it's from a 3500HD of course it will be 10 lug and that would be an obvious sign of its origin.

So... OP.. post up some clear pics and let's see if we can ID what you have

Hey thanks for the info Richard. So going back a forth with the guy I finally went out to the guys tow yard. And it turns out it was a ford single rear end. So I booped him on the nose and left. Thanks for the help guys.
