327 were built from 1962 through 1969. 350 was built from 1967 to , well they are still being built, but GM quit using them in there cars and trucks in 2002. They are still in some marine applictions, and used in some generators, not to mention being built as crate engines. The 350 is the longest any engine has been in production, and there have been more 350s built, than any other automotive engine in history.

I had one 327 that was very mild and one smolder the tire. Yes tire, it didn't have a posi. I wanted a bigger cam, and when I installed it and broke it in, the motor started to knock. When I pulled it out, it had 350 pistons in it, and were 1/4" in the whole. There isn't a lot of difference between the 2, but will get more power building the 350 over the 327. As the saying goes, no replacement for displacement. Why Im building a 406 lol....

All else being equal, a mild 350 has 25 ft/lbs and 15 horsepower advantage over a mild 327. That increases or decreases depending on the level of modification and the resulting RPM range.

BTDT. Love 'em. Damned hard finding good blocks, unless you want to drop 2K into an aftermarket block.

I think he is already picking one up tomorrow and doesn't know if its a 350 or 327 yet...?

Anyway IIRC, isnt a 327 just a 350 block with 305 crank just like a 383 is a 350 block with a 400 crank. The 327 was the quick-revving, high rpm engine back in the day

We run a 406 Dart block in our drag car. We kept running into problems with the damn siamese cylinders on stock blocks. Not a cheap option, but definitely worth it! We put out close to 700HP at the flywheel (estimated) naturally aspirated.
