So for some reason the little trim piece that goes around the handle to let you out of the truck is preventing the handle from fully disengaging the door allowing it to open.

Circular thingy:

Could this be an issue of the door rod being stretched not allowing it to properly disengage? I've heard of people saying that you can bend the door rod which allows it to work properly.

There is a very good chance your door handle has cracked and is flexing when you go to open the door. It is a very common problem on these trucks.

There are some small plastic clips inside the door that hold the rod. The rod can come out of those, allowing the rod not to work properly, or the clips can break. Yes, you can bend the rod, but only in the directions that it's already bent. Just bend it a bit more. If you bend it the opposite way that it is now, the rod won't fit into the clips. It's a trial & error operation, & a PITA! Put a bit of bearing grease on the rod, & the clips to smooth out the operation. While you are in there, lube up the lock mecahanism, & any other moving parts, too.

Ya did all that today thinking that was the problem then put everything together and find out its that trim piece not allowing it to work properly. Take the trim piece off and VOILA!

Thanks guy.s
