Well if you want the G80 to work and have a locker/LSD, I'd replace it. The 14 bolt is a strong axle, but the g80 has a nasty reputation.

My 14BSF G80 gets hammered pretty good and it still holds up. The G80 gets its bad rep from the 10 bolt.

Yes the 10 bolt g80 is weak but the 14 bolt g80 has never been reported as bad.

My 14 bolt G80 is still going strong after 206k miles, I also use Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil

The G80 in my 14B hardly worked, one inspection showed lots of metal shavings from the clutch pack in the rear end. Put an open carrier with a lock-rite in place of it last year.

In normal road conditions I find no problems with it. Wet roads is fun. Snow and ice condition, you just have to drive with a little more care. Granted last winter I had bald baja claws.

As far a noise most of the time the locker is quiet but every now and then it will make a popping sound in reverse.
