    4 Hi Headlight Mod

I meant moreso with all 4 bulbs burning at the same time. I imagine if it were a problem I would have found something in my searching..

    4 Hi Headlight Mod

Sorry to reply to such an old thread. But I just recently finally did this mod. I'm adding HID's for the low beam. Anyone have heat issues / melted housings from running 4hi with the HID's?

Rubber door to rocker seals and rust

I'm thinking they started somewhere around the year they redesigned the interior.. I think I'm gonna take them off but save them, clean the rust up best as I can and see what happens. This truck is pretty clean, except the doors and D/S cab corner. I was trying not to drive it in the...

Rubber door to rocker seals and rust

This is what I'm talking about. I can see how it keeps the sills clean, but look behind it. :/

Rubber door to rocker seals and rust

I can't believe I can't find a picture of what I'm talking about. I'll snap a photo tonight. It must be what your thinking though, to keep the door sills clean. Every truck I've ever seen that had them though, has rust under them where gunk gets stuck between them and the door.

Rubber door to rocker seals and rust

I've noticed only the later years of GMT400 trucks had the rubber seals on the bottoms of the doors. I'm talking about the sill piece that seals against the rocker panel. Not the weatherstrip itself. I'm starting to get some rust behind mine and thought of just taking them off. Do...

4.56 gears, quoted $800 for install. Anyone else get cheaper?

Is that with parts (seals, bearings, etc) If so, I'd say it's fair. I've never torn into the front diff on a 4wd vehicle, but I've never paid more than 2-300 labor to install a gear set in a RWD vehicle.

intake gaskets what to do with fuel lines

It's been awhile since I did the intake on my '88, but I seem to recall there being flex lines from the back of the block to the throttle body. If that's the case, you should be able to unhook them and tie them out of the way. But on my 98' with the vortec, you almost have to unhook them...

    What's this part?

Jack the front end and while your under the truck watching all the steering components, have someone grab each tire and wiggle them back and forth. You'll find your slop. What your describing could be any of the steering components..

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

Top. I'm confident they were bled down good. Pedal feel didn't change when pumping them up. Don't get me wrong, the truck stopped. Just with the pedal on the floor. And couldn't engage ABS on dry road. Just put the 1/2t calipers back on and bled them, night and day better. I can...

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

You'd need to change the booster for that master. Changing the booster, might as well do hydroboost. I'm gonna drive it a few more miles and finish bedding the pads and bleed it one more time. If it doesn't get better, I'm putting the proper 1/2 ton calipers back on it.

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

Well got it all buttoned up last night. Going to the 3/4 ton calipers was a major mistake. Soon as we started bleeding it I realized this. The master is just too small to move the volume needed for the bigger pistons. With everything bled down and firm as I could get it, the pedal goes to...

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

Just going on what I've been reading. same size piston in the master pushes XX amount of fluid. Since the pistons in the 2500 calipers are a good deal bigger, it's going to take more fluid to move them the same distance as the smaller 1500 ones. In theory, you'll have to use more of the...

    swap/upgrades to front calipers

So I bought the 2500 calipers since mine needed replacement anyway. Now I'm second guessing myself before I put them on. I realize there will be slightly more pedal travel, but would later doing the NBS MC swap correct this?

98' C1500 Rear drums - Whats wrong (pic)

Lots of good info there.. I really just pulled the drums to a pre-road trip inspection and thought. Well that's different. Even with the old style I just adjust them the way my dad always taught me growing up. Take the drum off, adjust them up, slide the drum on. If it goes on without a...

98' C1500 Rear drums - Whats wrong (pic)

I guess the adjuster is on top on our trucks. I guess I'm just used to all my other RWD GM's of years past. I need to pick up a book for these things..

98' C1500 Rear drums - Whats wrong (pic)

So just really pulled my drums for the first time. What the heck is going on here? I'm used to seeing the adjuster on the bottom, opposite of the wheel cylinder. The adjuster hole on the backing plate doesn't line up either. It's behind nothing but the top of the front shoe. Did...

Adding helper spings - New U bolts?

Just got a set of Hellwig helper spings to put on my 98' half ton. I got the wrong instructions with them, but it looks like they need to go under the stock U bolts. I have a bad feeling about breaking the u bolts. Whats the cheapest way to replace them? I've seen some say get...

Rear ended, bent frame and hitch

So 6 weeks after getting hit I finally have my truck back and fixed. This whole experience has been a total nightmare. The company that says you are in good hands is a total crock. I've never been given so much run around and attitude. They are now on my list of companies to never do...

Rear ended, bent frame and hitch

That's our one local body shop, not the insurance company. But they are great. They did some insurance work on the wifes car (old station wagon) and helped save it from getting totaled out too.

Rear ended, bent frame and hitch

Well I got my estimate back last night. It's a lot, but still not as much as I thought it was. It came back $2,100. I asked about at what percentage they usually call it a loss. He said there's nothing to worry about until you get close to 80% depending on the insurance company. And...

Rear ended, bent frame and hitch

Well while I'm waiting to hear back from the insurance adjuster I took it to my usual body shop to get a estimate just for my own piece of mind. He said the older Chevy frames are not that bad to straighten since they're C channel instead of boxed. He'll write it up and let me know tomorrow.

Rear ended, bent frame and hitch

Luckily I bought most stuff off the web, I'm going thru my emails and printing them off now. Just a few smaller things from Autozone I don't have receipts for. Luckily the body is okay. The bumper, hitch and frame is all that got damaged. If he were in a bigger car I'm sure it would have...

Rear ended, bent frame and hitch

Don't they usually look at the blue book, then the cost of the repair and see which is cheaper? Before I let them total it, I definitely want to take it to a frame shop just to see what I'm looking at to fix it. It's such a clean solid truck besides that crustyness on the back under the bed...
