    Jeep Hauler 1990 K3500 Dually

Once that was done, my wife bought me a new daily driver for $1,200. It is a 1995 Jeep Cherokee XJ, 2 door, 2WD. Eventually I will convert it to 4wd, but for now I just needed to make it road worthy. I just finished it last night. I had to weld on a new exhaust, drop the transmission and put it...

Well I am still here. Just been busy since my last post. My brother bought that ZJ from me so I had to spend a few days with him getting it back on the road and ready for the trails. I had to rebuild both drive lines, pull the transfer case, reseal the transmission, gut the interior, replace the...

Thinking GMT400 3500 Dually for Track Day Towing, Thoughts?

I just bought a 1990 K3500 454 for hauling Jeeps. Mine is a bit of a basket case at the moment though. However, I got it anyways because it is one tough truck that is meant for hauling. Once I have it done, it should last me a long time. Up until now I used the family 2011 Tahoe. While it did...

Wheel balancing beads “ Do they really help”?

As a Jeep guy I use balance beads on my 35" tires. They tend to work well for truck tires but not as well for smaller (passenger car) tires. When you take a vehicle on and off road, the beads have a few advantages. - Airing down and up tires repeatedly tends to dislodge clip-on wheel weights...

The Dakota Digital gauge cluster and all the components showed up today. This thing is extremely well made.

The member who was making the new Hot Fuel Modules responded to me and had a few more so he was willing to sell me one. That is one more item off the list. I'll keep the old one as a spare anyways. The Dakota Digital gauges should be here Monday. It will be good to get my hands and eyes on those...

    Jeep Hauler 1990 K3500 Dually

Below is why I think this truck is worth rebuilding. Just for reference, I almost decided to find a 1920's or 1930's 2 ton and turn it into a Jeep hauler instead. That would have been cool, but I kind of miss having a full size Chevy. We have a surprisingly large number of old 2 tons around...

Here is why I don't think I need the Check Engine Lamp Driver Module. First is that the Painless kit comes with its own CEL. Second is that I don't see it on the Painless instructions as a required part.

Here is the area that I am currently looking at. Does anyone know what the inline resistor is for (Number 3 on the left hand schematic)?

Sure. I hope to get the grill off it sometime next week. I'll get a picture for you once I have a clear shot at the front of the engine.

Nice project! Half the fun is building it yourself. A couple of other things that I'm still looking into are the Hot Fuel Handling Module and the Check Engine Lamp Driver Module. I think the relay is actually for the front axle 4wd engagement and not the transfer case since the t-case is all...

Yep, the underside for the flatbed and trailer wiring is just as bad, so is the engine bay. As an example, the engine temp wire for the gauge is bare and corroded so I don't trust those readings at all. Which could be another reason it would over heat. It was probably hotter than the gauge was...

For those of you using the Painless Wiring TBI kit, be aware that I have found three typos with it. Two are in the instructions and one was on the harness label itself. I had to make a couple of phone calls to Painless to verify, but yeah. There are typos in the kit. It is not detrimental but it...

Nope, I was wrong. It is the transfer case relay. I'm pretty sure that the windshield wiper harness isn't supposed to look like this. I will have to dig into it some more. Here are a few more things that came in. Thanks for the lead on the nice connectors.

Was able to clean up some of the wiring yesterday. Trying to remove any of Bubba's wires and just get it down to the factory wires so I can evaluate those more. It is looking a lot better but unfortunately I'm finding many of the factory wires are damaged (cut, spliced or the insulation has...

Here is the main reason I am building a tow rig. I purchased this bone stock from a lady in her 60's. It was her family car when she still had teens at home and she just didn't use it any more. I got it for $1,200 and then built it into what it is now. While it is perfectly street legal and does...

Even if I was to try and save what I have, all I would be saving would be the fuse panels and connectors. The wires have all been cut or otherwise damaged and need to be replaced. I'm saving the connectors as it is. So really the only things I am changing that doesn't "need" to be are the fuse...

    Jeep Hauler 1990 K3500 Dually

That's quite possible, but I really only paid $3,500 for it since I sold the plow for $1,000. My budget is $10,000 and anything I found that was already in "done" condition was significantly over that. So far I am well below budget and most of the large items are already purchased. It is just...

Perhaps you guys can help me out since I am finding conflicting information as to what these relays are. See pic below. Just for fun, here are some more pictures of the wiring.

The 5.2 Magnum is a great engine. Way under rated. After that the Chrysler stuff kind went down hill. I have 4 of them. Two in vehicles and a spare for each with transmissions, harness and computers. One is ODBI and the other ODBII. In my opinion, probably the best engine ever put in a Jeep and...

Picked up a larger engine stand today for the 454. Don't mine the 5.2 Magnum in the corner.
