    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

I appreciate everyone's help. I am an idiot, when I swapped out the throttle position sensor, I put it on wrong, I put the tab behind the bar on the throttle body and not in front of it. Timing is okay, now it just surges on start up until it somewhat levels out. Next up is IACv and I believe...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Unfortunately numbers were worn off on the injectors, but I’m positive they were the 350 injectors after every other part on the top was from the 350. ECU I’ll be doing this weekend as I unfortunately ran out of time today due to family stuff while trying to figure out everything else. But I’m...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Harmonic balancer is good. Yes timing was set to 0 with wire unplugged at operating temp. But after putting the other parts on it, it through everything out of whack. So haven’t been able to reset it again after going back to the other stuff as it is now not running

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Ignition and cam timing is good. I am not working on the truck anymore today. So I am just leaving it unplugged over night. But my money is on the ECU still has the 5.0 PROM in it and not a 5.7.

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Plugs are good, there is spark and there is fuel. PSI for fuel is 12. I have not done a crank compression test as I can't get the engine to optimal temperature for an accurate reading as truck wont run now and being cold could produce lower numbers if I were to just test it. But I guess I could...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Well timing was okay but I don’t know how to explain it haha. The mark was so far retar*ed when the 5.0 stuff was hooked up. But anyways, ran, but then I unplugged the map sensor and it shut the truck off as it should. Put all the original sensors back on…. And now she cranks but no start...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Ah, damn lol. Well I swapped it over anyways and **** didn’t run and now it won’t turn over and my timing went way off. So putting all the original stuff back as it was probably meant for the 350 haha. Next up is pulling the computer .

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Pulled off a module from a 5.7 at the junk yard and it says “HKM”. So I am swapping that one on to mine as mine does not have that on it and part numbers are different. Basically took every sensor off the 5.7 to swap on to this haha.

Ah yes, I have that and pulled a few things out of the wrecker today. I will match the codes between the two lol. I’ll get the ecm number and all that tomorrow for reference

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Most likely lol. Can I just swap in a 350 chip or do I need the ecu as well?

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Ah, I do not have a 3x3 box mounted next to the TB. At this point I’m ready to swap out to an older 350 and go carb setup haha

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Thanks for that, My distributor is brand new, but sometimes new parts can be defective. I will take a look and see if this could be the culprit.

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

I do not know the ESM number but I will be getting that tomorrow. The ESC is plugged into the distributor correct ? Because if so mine has dual plugs on it. I was told they retained the 1990 harness and used it on the 1995 5.7. Will find out tomorrow as well if I’m running 5.7 injectors or 5.0...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Fuel pressure was at 12psi steady when I checked 2 weeks ago. If I recall the PSI should be between 9-13psi. I thought the throttle body was the same for the 5.0 and 5.7 engines. The 7.4 ( 454 ) I believe was different. But I could be wrong. All the information I have is that the engine came out...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

No pissing match here. By runs good, I mean it ran good with zero issues, for the first bit I owned it. No hesitation, no checkin engine light etc. then out of the blew one day driving home it died twice on me. Fuel pressure is good, injectors are shooting fuel like they should. Checked the...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

It was originally a 5.0... I did not swap the engine. I bought it with the 5.7. Ran good then after a month it crapped out.

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Unfortunately my OBD port has no power...Not sure where the ground or power cable run to. I suck at electrical work hahha. All wiring is undamaged as far as I can tell, no breaks or tears. I will pull the loom further back to inspect more though. I appreciate the help.

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

It’s clamped down properly. I have to loosen it and turn it a bit to bring the idle up to stop it from running like crap. Then after she’s warm, I have to unplug the connector, reset the timing to 0 degrees tdc. Then she runs mint. But again after that, if she sits for a few hours it does it all...

    Rough idle, Timing randomly adjusts

Hello, I have a 1990 GMC with a swapped in 95 5.7. Using factory harness from the 1990 and accessories. I have replaced distributor, cap, rotor, ignition coil plus brand new timing chain as of 1 week ago. The timing still randomly drops and I have to reset it every time. Could this be caused...
