Really wish ppl would stop bringing me trucks with hydraulic fluid in trans

Without reading ALL the replies, it's a no brainer with me; I tell the customer I understand the frustration but there are a lot of ill-informed mechanics selling their services. I am not a warranty shop for other shops mistakes. If you want the problem repaired correctly, your at the right...

    Converting 1988 2500 6 lug to 8 lug 2wd

OMG. why can't one just answer technical questions without projecting their own priorities. FoxNotch didn't say he wanted to give the truck a 8600lb GVWR, he said the front end is already shot, they put a heavier engine in, and and the rear is already a 14 bolt FF. they have obviously already...

All replacement vortec distributers have .427" shafts!

Comp Cams calls it "Austempered" ductile iron that creates a harder surface than standard cast iron. There are some CC videos available on you tube. My bad, I heard in my head it was pressed on. They say its compatable but still recommend a melonized gear...

All replacement vortec distributers have .427" shafts!

I thought some closer photos might help. When I pulled the distributor out, there was a flake of metal still hung on. You can see in the photos ridges at the base of the gears you can hang you thumbnail on. I'm an Aviation sheet metal mechanic, have a trained eye for .***" measurements and...

All replacement vortec distributers have .427" shafts!

So I'm looking for the guy who really knows his stuff on the Vortec distributer gear issue. I made what I am finding was a fatal mistake of putting a Comp cams K01-417-8 computer controlled cam kit in my '96 L29 454. I thought this was a strait forward upgrade, but had to take my heads back...

    Intermittent P0341/0 code

Is the distributer set to 0 degrees +/- 2 @ at least 1000 rpm, as read on a diagnostic scanner? If out of those parameters, the computer may be having trouble adjusting your timing and will definately throw the code.

Copper shavings in oil? What’s going on!

Crap. Now I'm distracted again from my problems. "your drunk friend overheated it"? He probably said it wasn't too bad didn't he? All great suggestions. You are not fixing this engine with anything short of a tear-down. You said you're burning more oil and running hotter. My guess is overheating...

Totally lost noob with silly question, but I've been reading everything I can find with no avail...

A lot of good advice! Obviously ignore ones that say you can't fix it. That's why people are on forums. People can't afford to take every problem to a shop. With a little help, we problem solve ourselves. Firstly I agree. Properly fix every known issue first so your not chasing ghosts. Bad oil...

Totally lost noob with silly question, but I've been reading everything I can find with no avail...

Definitely not the subject , but for quite a long time in the 80's, 90s and probably 2ks, standard 2500s used a semi-floating rear end, whether a 12 bolt or 14 bolt with 8 lug hubs. Full floater 14 bolts are only on HD model 2500s and early tons until the 11" AAC, now on 3500, 2500HD diesel and...

I need helppppp!! L29 454 vortec distributor installed

I know I'm late to this, but if you haven't resolved your issue, on my '96 GMC with a Gen VI 7.4 Vortec, the connector is pointed to the LH (passenger) side, roughly 2 oclock. The Flat of the housing parallel with the manifold or roughly perpendicular (side to side). Your pictures look correct...
