    LEAN on both banks

Everyone's got an opinion. I'll have one when I use my FISH. I'll read your articles. The guy I know is now in his 90's, and he's been around the block a few times. He didn't tell me 'sell', he told me experience, story after story he personally experienced. I'll take his experience over...

I get the politics thing. Schurkey's signature posts a political statement. Why didn't the OP flag that?

What scanner do you use and how much did it cost? What YMM vehicles do you fix with it? Where did you learn how to read the numbers? Where did you get your info on how the systems work? Where did you get the info on all the wiring diagrams and all the controls specs?

If by 'pre-war' you mean VietNam, then where can I get one that's not a mess? When traveling in Turkey I saw plenty of them back in the mid 80's. They were the taxis, kept in pristine condition. Checkered cabs, Buicks, Chevys, a few Fords, etc. All 4 door sedans with big V8's.

My research shows that USG has been at war since the founding days. There hasn't been a 5 year span of time when the US hasn't been at war somewhere around the world. And ALL but a handful of those wars were for our safety and security (at the beginning of the Republic). All the rest did the...

Which war? I just read your statement at the bottom of your thread. Not to get into it, but the 'authorities' I read show that the US government created COVID19 at U of NC @ Chapel Hill. Canada gov't was involved. It was sold to the highest bidder, which apparently was China. But the real...

Interesting perspective. Where'd you get your info from? I personally know one of the guys who was personally involved with marketing them and all the rest of it (he was personal friends with the inventor). The stories he told me disagree with your narrative. For example, out on the other coast...

Thanks for the input. I'll look for the manual download. Right, my error, it's B2S1 O2 sensor, same bank that was running lean and getting fuel dumped into it. Right, condensate dripping out of the tail pipe is what I want to see (it's Florida, so no cold weather). Why in the world would the oil...

    LEAN on both banks

UPDATE: I replaced the spark plugs, replaced the O2 sensors, and replaced the oil pressure sensor. The engine ran very much better, and it was dripping water out of the tail pipe with no sign of excess gas burning. One notable is the oil sender has 3 pins, but someone busted off 2 of the pins...

Right, I tried that. It's not an o-ring, but a lip seal with a metal base and hard rubber coating.

    LEAN on both banks

Right, it's a double-lip type seal made specifically for that application. I looked in my seal supplier cataloges for something similar but could not find one.

Thanks for this testimony. I am hoping that's not the case with this one. Just took th plugs out and changed them today. The old plugs that I cleaned were looking very good. No oil, no rich fouling, but a bit of signs of fuel additive (he burns high test in it). With the plugs changed it now...

Yes, I notied that it was in OpenLoop since disconnecting the O2 sensors.

Thanks for that explanation Schurkey. Makes sense. So the PCM needs the fore O2 sensors to make a mixture. But if there aren't any O2 signals going to the PCM, then won't the PCM just use 'limp-in-mode' values?

Haha, I get it. A little slow on the update! OK, I get that the mechanical causes prompted the computer to dump fuel into the cylinders (esp, Bank2) But does the LEAN indicator in the EngineData mean it's running lean? If not, then what's the purpose for it?

Thanks for those ideas. What's "nostrils"? Yes, 4 of the plugs were backed out (not all the way screwed in) until I fixed that. So 'ignition leaks' are now fixed. That was a double-whammie, since the spark was buried in the threaded hole, instead of burning inside the combustion chamber. Both...

    LEAN on both banks

Thanks for that info Eric. I'll definitely take that under advisement. Experience is always better than theory and 'opinion'! The only other places I could think of that may be causing the LEAN signal (air leak) are: 1. EGR system 2. EVAP system 3. Brake booster 4. PCV valve 5. Intake manifold...

Hi RichLo, Thanks for the advice. Today I ordered the parts, and will install them when they arrive. Then the guy can run it for a week or so. Then back to me to check on it. I could not find any replacement parts for the intake leak. Maybe you know a source where I can get them? It's a 1998...

@0xDEADBEEF, OK, thanks for the clarification. But since doing all the work, there's only a slight misfire on #3, according to the Tech2 scanner. Do you know of a more accurate and reliable method for testing for misfire?

    LEAN on both banks

Schurkey, thanks for your lengthy reply. It ain't my vehicle. I know for a fact that the owner ain't gonna add EGR and cats. So I gotta work with what I got. On the smoke test, after flipping the intake adapter seal, there was a slight smoke trail out of a small area (about 10 degrees around...

0xDEADBEEF, thanks for that idea. I did a compression test on all the 'holes', and they call came up between 178 psi and 190 psi. Didn't do a leak-down test on any of the 'holes'. So what makes you think it's got a 'dead hole' with all good compression?

Hi Rich, Thanks for your input. Yes, I was planning on replacing the 2 fore O2 sensors for that reason. My thought on running it was to put a can of SeaFoam in the tank and fill-it-up. Then run it like that to clean some of the coke off the valves, pistons & cylinder heads. I checked the...

Hey Guys, Thanks for having this forum. I searched it and others on the internet and still didn't find an answer for my problem. Maybe someone in here has a known good answer? Here's what's going on... It's a 1998 Chevy Tahoe, 5.7L Vortec, 2wd, 4dr, front & rear A/C. It has no cats and the EGR...
