Pulled the head off the 400 and this is what I found. Raised dish pistons? And there's that nick in the piston too looks like detonation. oh well nothing a good rebuild can't fix. But that's for another thread.

Here's that stage 2 necromancer cam. I'm not exactly sure what grind this cam is,but it's got about the right lift pattern for vortec heads since they stall at about 500 to 550 lift.

Here's a little bit of an update on the vortec 350. I ain't had much time to work on it since I wanted to take a break and start messing around with the split bumper again. So part of the reason the engine failed I think.the knock sensor wire was severed from corrosion and heat. I was wondering...

I'm getting ready to say it looks right to me. I didn't take it apart or anything.i just took it off the other water pump because that one for the truck did not have the hole in the top for the bypass that I needed. Plus the other one has the pulley for an electric pump set up for the turd gen...

My fan is backwards? I'm not sure if the water pump is or not.

    Blew the 400 up

I'm not exactly sure which one it is. I did have a 92 roadmaster motor do it could've been off of that. But have I no use for that if the crank pulley from the original lines up

    Blew the 400 up

I'm back I got the whole engine together finally pulled all belt drive and shoved that on there. Turns out I didn't even have to change the balancer or crank pulley. I thought the old 350 crank pulley from the Camaro would have to be used. but I didn't realize the balancer on that car was...

Here's the pulley for the vortec motor and then a l98 side by side (l98 left vortec right) I'm not sure if the l98 water and crank pulley will work with the rest of the TBI accessories. I'll have to look and see.

    Blew the 400 up

So I started going through some of my old 91 Camaro parts that I saved and woulda know a crank pulley and a water pump line up!

So I got curious about the 400 and this motor is cooked.4 bent push rods. spun bearing and no oil pressure. how this made it 40 miles home is beyond me.

    Blew the 400 up

Oh yeah and finally I had a couple of questions about the vortec. I don't want to take the timing cover off the thing and have to remove the reluctant wheel for the ckp sensor. Can I use the vortec water pump with the TBI belt drive? Does the vortec water pump have the same rotation as the...

I thought a flat tappet needed lighter spring pressure than a roller so you don't destroy lobes. Maybe I got the 2 switched up. You know I've been eye balling the melling 22280 hydraulic roller cam for a while now. All it is basically the roller version of my melling 22301 cam. I was thinking...

Update. I finally got the engine sealed. Now it's ready to throw in. I'll be a rotten ******* if let this truck go to the scrap yard. My neighbor down down the street "suggested" that I just haul it off since I bought the 72 monte Carlo.

Well I've been busy but got. The TBI on the intake. At least the throttle blades don't hit the adapter anymore.

Now that I know that motor is a 4 bolt main. With that low of miles. It's gonna yanked eventually and machined to a blown 383 and thrown in my 73 Camaro.

It's a mexico made block with Mexico 906 heads. Now the 400 is a Canadian block. I have a question about this. Will the summit k1103 cam survive the valve springs? I mean since roller has more seat pressure.

    Blew the 400 up

Hi y'all back again. Some of parts got here, including my oil pan seal. Pulled the pan on the vortec motor and BEHOLD. 4 bolt main. I'd say this motor was worth the 500 at 116181 miles. I didn't know that truck was a 3500 though.

    Blew the 400 up

So I finally got the motor up on the stand today. Pulled the intake off and it's pretty clean in there. I thought the motor was locked up at first but I think it's just got a light film of rust from moisture. But I got it freed up after work. I think I got a leaky valve on number 6. oh well if...
