88GMCtruck's 98 Silverado Towpig Build: "Black Fox"

Well well, Brian, I hadn't seen any of these updates. It looked a lot easier on your facebook. haha Glad you worked through the issues though. Some projects really test our resolve. It's gotta be worth it now though. So, did you kick Geoff's pacer out to do it?

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

I'll close this thread out now... Got the wifey fat last year, so a regular cab wasn't gonna cut it. And my truck was getting rusty anyway. I actually bought a clean Z71 in Cali and had it shipped back to NY to build with my built engine and 5spd and 14bolt. But it wasn't meant to be...cause...

    2000 7.4l MPFI swap into 1995 7.4l TBI

Here's a link with info. You have to remove two resistors on the ECM and replace them with wire in order for the two TBI injector drivers to run the eight MPFI injectors. There's also one jumper on the PROM itself. The Gearhead site is full of great information on OBD1 stuff...

    2000 7.4l MPFI swap into 1995 7.4l TBI

You could run the port fuel injection with the TBI computer setup. I'm working on that now. It requires a little soldering and burning a new tune for the OBD1 computer, but it may be the least work.

88GMCtruck's 98 Silverado Towpig Build: "Black Fox"

A friend of mine from TN is the guy who bought the truck. So far he likes it. I told him the NV4500 would be more fun. He posted a bunch of pics from the road trip coming home. Got a cool pic with Rushmore.

Haven't updated this thread in a while, so here's a bunch of random pics. I'll also put together a post shortly on my new trailer. Bought one and ended up modifying it already...I really like it though.

    Running lean/bogging

I'm guessing you're referring to BLMs. 128 would be no change, and 165 would be adding a ton of fuel. If it's trying to add a ton of fuel via o2 feedback and still acts lean, you have a fuel delivery issue. The other possibility is an inaccurate o2 flooding it out. But you should be able to...

    G80 - Any good in 14SF?

I swapped in a 14sf g80 axle to my truck. The g80 teeth were chipped up, so I actually used bolt cutters to cut out the flyweights and keep it from coming apart. I figured with how much I beat on my truck I'd be better off 1-legging than exploding it. It's pretty easy to open the cover and...

    Cheap overhaul?

Is this superdave of cavalier/camaro/nova fame? I did a similar refresh of my TBI engine and did the hone and pistons (same bore) and rings with some vortec heads. Be sure to check the heads for cracks between the two center exhaust valves. Lots of running engines have those cracks starting...

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

The fair parking lot got a little nasty, so I had to pull my uncle out. Then a friend's father. Then some Jersey guy. Then a minivan! haha The minivan family gave my wife $100 for pulling them out. I didn't want to do it cause they couldn't hook to the axle and wanted me to pull them out by the...

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

Got to play in the snow with it this week. Got 30" in about 24hrs and the roads were the worst I've ever seen. I had to chauffeur the wife to work at the ER in the LimouZine71. Never got it stuck though! And I was the only one who made it in to work for 2 days. haha

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

Those were done a year or two ago. Had a friend TIG em since my MIG with mild wire would rust at the welds. He must have slightly warped the collars cause I had to red RTV them to seal. I plan to slowly weld the ones I'm doing for my Camaro assembled...hopefully that works as a heat sink and...

    NV4500 clutch problems

Yeah... I'm not changing the slave style. It's been all done and back together for a while now. Super smooth and the new clutch is light enough for the wife to drive it. This is my winter beater/hauler that I already have way too much work in. Haha

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

Just had to fix the clutch. It are the fork and pivot ball. Totally screwed. Ended up doing a whole clutch kit since it was only another $75 more than the throwout bearing only. Stock replacement 1ton clutch should be fine for what I need and it's way more wife friendly. The old Napa HD clutch...

    NV4500 clutch problems

Not sure about the codes, but it's an external slave trans out of a 94 K3500. My truck is a 94 K1500. Original engine block, now rebuilt as a Vortec 357. I think it's this clutch, but I'd have to dig out an old receipt to be sure: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NCF1104902

    NV4500 clutch problems

I swapped a NV4500 in my truck in 2011. Been a few years and lots of miles with no problems. The past few months it has given me some trouble. The pedal started to get harder. Didn't notice it at first cause it was gradual and I've got 3 other stick cars I drive. Master blew out so I replaced...

Vibrates like crazy in 4WD, fine in 2WD

Yup, u-joint. Piece of cake. Got both the front joints on the way from Rockauto for like $25 shipped. ACDelco "professional grade".

Vibrates like crazy in 4WD, fine in 2WD

U-joint! Duh...why didnt I think of that. I'll bet that's it. Swapped in the BW tcase when I swapped in the NV4500 out of a 1-ton. Trans, tcase & rear dshaft are all 1-ton, rear is 6-lug 3/4-ton and the front end is still 1/2-ton. But it's been like that since 2011.

Vibrates like crazy in 4WD, fine in 2WD

This problem was sudden. Fine at the beginning of the day, and suddenly vibration city. 240k on the truck, so I'm sure front ring & pinion are worn, but that is something that wouldn't happen suddenly.

Vibrates like crazy in 4WD, fine in 2WD

94 K1500 with a BW tcase swap and elec actuator conversion. I assumed it was a CV problem, but I just got the truck in the air and don't feel any play in the CV joints. They seem to be fine. The 4WD does work, but I cant use it above 5mph or so because it vibrates. So I'm thinking the...

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

Hey creeper...found your request on facebook. haha Camaro is blown apart for a full restomod. Body surgery to stuff the tires under the fender, paint job, EFI conversion & 383 build. And fixing stuff I half-assed when I was like 19. haha I've got a build thread on NastyZ28...

    Woody's Black Z71 pic history

Been a while! I did make some to use a low beam bulb for the reverse and I could see zero difference in a side by side comparison. Apparently the stock reverse housing in the tail light is the biggest obstacle. So I just added fogs under the bumper. I could cut up some more just like I have...

Got it from ebay. "Light smoke" headlight tint film. Doesn't hold up the greatest...and I think I did a pretty good job prepping...but it looks good for a beater! haha
