    The Stupid Interior Questions Thread

My stupid question: Do the rear bench seats in the crew cabs fold down flat?

Crew Cab rear seat - does it fold flat?

Does the rear bench seat in the 95+ crew cabs fold down flat, so that it could be used for hauling some dogs around, for example?

    Check your transfer case lube!

the transfer case plugs are a very soft aluminum, very easy to round off for sure.

    Check your transfer case lube!

Just a "public service announcement" - I recently bought a 2000 Escalade (GMT400), and had some clunky feeling upon initial takeoff from a stop. I remember having this in my 98 Tahoe with autotrac 4WD, and the updated GM blue fluid corrected the problem. SO, I figured it was the same problem...

    junkyard brake upgrade ideas?

I think I saw a thread somewhere where someone bolted on Eldorado calipers in the rear...

    squeaky noise??

Initial thought is tires rubbing on something, lots of times rubbing only will happen in reverse, might be worth considering. Also, could be a CV joint starting to go bad.

    Air Bags for Towing

Ahh, that makes a little more sense to me. Thanks.

    Air Bags for Towing

Shock absorbers are not supposed to support weight, they are there to dampen the oscillations in the suspension after contacting a bump. I just never liked the idea of trying to support weight with shock mount brackets that weren't intended to support such loads.

    Air Bags for Towing

I don't understand why you'd want to mess with 20 year old junkyard parts, in an inferior system, instead of using an air spring kit. Air springs are superior to air shocks in versatility and overall usefulness.

    Trailer lighting issues.... please help

I'd probably start with a digital multimeter to check what's being output through all the wires when different lights are being activated. It sounds to me like a possible grounding issue.

    "Weakest Link"

That's a great deal for a low mileage 6.0, I'd jump on that.

    "Weakest Link"

Yah, 6.0L is my plan for my GMT400 Escalade that I just bought. Would solve the problem of being rather underpowered, being a heavy pig that it is. The GMT400 trucks just feel like home to me - I've owned 3 of them now, first one back in '02, so it's a very familiar platform to work on and...

    "Weakest Link"

Well, there's always the option of an engine swap if you're a diehard OBS lover! Get the best of both worlds. I forgot to mention, gearing also helps the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks a little, I don't think the 1/2 ton could be ordered with 4.11 or 4.56 gears.

    "Weakest Link"

When it comes to brute pulling power, the OBS 3/4 or 1-ton trucks are only going to be marginally better with the 454 or 6.5, and if they have the 350, they'll be more of a dog due to the extra weight and drivetrain losses through the 4L80/14 bolt. There's plenty to be said for the added...

    "Weakest Link"

Better off just keeping it in 3, don't bother with OD unless it's absolutely flat and level road. The back and forth from 3 to OD heats up that transmission a lot. Air bags are a huge help, I was running them in my 97 K1500 that's for sale( airbag kit is for sale now), and installing a set...

    lower control arm bushings

I have a 97 K1500, non z71, and I was able to replace the LCA bushings. I doubt that 96 was any different in that regard. If you post a pic of your LCAs I can tell you if they look the same as mine.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I think I'm probably gonna stick with my truck for now, I just can't justify the expense after I've just now finished almost every major trouble spot on this truck. Too much invested, and it hauls well enough for what I ask it to haul, so I think I'll leave well...

Thanks for the welcomes! The wheels are Alcoa wheels from an OBS Tahoe Z71, and I cut up some GMC center caps to fit. I'm in Micanopy, just north of Ocala.
