Opinions please? Transmission issue or something else.

I have a 1997 Z71. The issue I'm having is sometimes when the truck is in reverse and you start to reverse there is a loud hard thud followed by a high pitched grinding sound, throw it in park and it will stop. It doesn't do this everytime. People have told me its the sun shell in the trans...

Will a 99' 4L60E swap into my 1997 Z71?

Pretty sure my trans is bad. Needs replaced or rebuilt. My buddy has a trans. He would sell me at a good price. According to the research I have done 9LUD on the sticker on the trans. Means it is a model year 99' trans. Will this interchange with my 97'?
