Hello, I have a 1989 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado. I am in need of new front brake pads and rotors, but there are so many options I am having trouble deciding. I was wondering if maybe I could get some advice from people that have already decided what brakes work best. I have been looking at the Hawk Performance brake pad and rotor kit for around 250 dollars, as well as the PowerStop brake pads. Any experience or advice with either of these companies or other ones will be helpful. I plan to buy the new brake parts in a week or two, so any advice is helpful. Thank you in advance to everyone.

I guess before I offer any advice, I need to know, what are your complaints with the stock stuff? And what are you trying to accomplish with an upgrade?

Well, I don't have any complaints with the stock stuff, I am just wanting to upgrade. I use this truck as everything, a daily driver, an equipment hauler, a street truck, and even a farm truck. I was simply looking for some rotors and pads to increase my brake's efficiency. My current pads and rotors are fairly old and in need of replacement, and I figured that instead of some generic Duralast, Brake Best, Valucraft, etc, pads and rotors, I would spend a little extra cash and get some better, more reliable performance out of my brakes.

Well, I've used the Hawk stuff before, but that was on a casual autocross car. I was happy with it. But honestly, stock ACDelco ceramics and rotors will probably make you happy.

Really? I looked at the ACDelco stuff, too, but I thought that investing some extra cash into the brakes would be worth it. I know it wouldn't make a huge difference, but I thought it would still make the braking system more efficient.

Pad's can only do so much, so quality i.e. AcDelco and not Duracrap, but otherwise, look into swapping the NBS stuff on if you want a realy upgrade, they have bigger rotors and dual piston calipers that will do more than the best ever stock replacement pad.

I saw a thread about replacing the brake system with the NBS stuff, but figured that for right now it isn't really worth it. So if I use quality ACDelco components, is there any small upgrades I can do to help out the brake system? I've already rebuilt the entire rear drum brakes (albeit with Duralast everything), so in the case of the disc brakes, is there any common upgrades or replacements I should do while I'm there?

If everything is new and adjusted and in good shape, that's about it. The newer master cylinder is a pretty easy swap and fairly effective.

What about brake calipers? I haven't checked them in way too long. The NBS master cylinder swap has made me curious, do you know where to find a good write-up on it on here? If I think I can do it, and if it is truly that effective, I might attempt it.

3/4 ton, 1 ton caliper's bolt on, they have a larger bore, but still single piston. So the best you can do without going to NBS stuff.

The MC write is like three post below yours,
