I'm not that worried about it. It's more along the lines of something I noticed and the analyst in me wants to try a few things and compare notes to get a definitive answer. I'm one lazy SOB, so definitely not going to install a filter relocation kit. The valvetrain might indeed need looked at, but I'm not ready to fire that canon. It runs well enough for me to justify farming that service out, if indeed the case.

My soon to be wife's 2002 Tahoe and it's 5.3 had all kinds of valvetrain noise on start-up. Would go away once warm. It had about 260k miles on it and so I deduced it was just worn out. Oil pressure gauge also never read more than 45psi and when hot it read just under 20 and fluttered around. "Hmm, probably a bad sending unit." I thought. Took a road trip with it to pick up some speakers that were about 1,500 miles away. On the return trip the thing would start ticking above 2,000 rpm. Hmm, that's all she wrote, I guess. So many people and even the shop I trusted told me the engine was no good. Hmm, ~$6,000 for a "new" engine wasn't in our budget. Stumbled upon articles about dudes replacing some o-ring in the oil pump's pick-up tube. Despite all the input I received directing us to replace the engine, we spent the ~$700 to replace that o-ring. Whaddya know? No more ticking on start-up, gauge in the truck reads nearly 60psi at cold start and it never dips below 35psi when hot now. 20k miles later and going strong.

Same exact thing happened to my neighbor's 2500. Dealership almost wouldn't replace the o-ring without a fight from him. They did and everything was fine....
He showed me a video of the noise... it was very bad..... I can see how it would be easy to think the motor was checked out...

Yep. I recall talking with my mechanic about it, he was one of the guys who told me the engine was toast. Eventually he ended up doing the service and then told me he does them all the time. WTF? Told me if I wanted a job at his establishment, it's mine at any time. "Suure. Derek, the engine whisperer." LMBO, I think not. My soon to be wife was very happy though. "If they don't find 'ya handsome, they should at least find 'ya handy.."

My last oil change was with the usual Wix filter that was made in USA I believe in Illinois. They also made the Bosch one, I think exactly the same as Wix/Napa Gold and I bought quite a few on Amazon, so look for that filter too while they are still out there.

He's talking about the LS motor. Just another reason why I don't want one.
Oh I've got my radar scanning for a regular cab short box stick shift 5.3 truck. Some say the GMT400 was the best truck GM made, but after driving her Tahoe, I'm all about the '00-'04 GMT800's. I can't say enough good things about them, and this is coming from all the criticism I picked up beforehand. Especially about the 4L60E. Don't let the O-ring deal scare you away. She drove her truck THREE YEARS like that, once clear across country pulling a trailer in addition to our trailer trip. "It's always made that noise..", she said. The knock-my-socks-off factor was she was given the dham thing for FREE from the original owner. Told things like, "Don't thank me yet, I dunno how much longer it'll last.." "It's got soo many miles on it.." So that's what she chanted when I met her. She actually asked me to help her find a new car. This was before I learned it, along with her, came up from Arizona. RUST. FREE. Talk about "She didn't know what she had."

The only experience I've had with them is my sis-in-law has a n 05 Yukon Denali with a 6.0 Runs like a r@ped ape but the fuel economy sucks especially if you hook anything up to it. My brother has a 04 Avalanche with a 5.3 that won't pull itself out of a wet paper bag,my worn out 305 will run circles around it. Both trucks are in a good state of tune just useless as teets on a boar hog.

That could be the automatic or an issue between the steering wheel and driver's seat. When Angela drives her truck, she gets about 12-14 mpg with it. When I drive it, 15-17. She isn't consistent with the throttle and runs up to red lights & such. She also likes to take off pretty hot. Her truck has 3.73's, it goes pretty good considering how much mass it has to haul around.
