Is this axle bad? (95 C1500 2WD)
I've been too busy to work on this, but I was looking at it tonight, and saw that one of the small gears fell off at some point. Is this a big deal, or does it just wedge in between something when I put the axles back in? Is it something I will be able to do by myself?- tireshark

Is this axle bad? (95 C1500 2WD)
Pulled the passenger tire, pried back the boot on the cylinder a bit, and brake fluid started leaking, so I guess the fluid on that tire was brake fluid from an existing leak. I took that axle out to inspect it, and it is in a lot better shape than the driver side was. There are 2 small lines...- tireshark

Well, I'm not having good luck with this job. Been busy with other things for a few days, so I left it on a jack stand. Returned home today and the jack stand had tipped over, and the truck fell on the ground. I had it chucked while I was underneath it working on the diff cover, but I pulled one...- tireshark

Well the emery improved it, but it still has issues. I started with 150 grit and when it didn't seem to be helping a lot, I used the 80 grit. It helped more, but there is still a very noticeable by touch/nail area at the yellow arrow. I'm still glad I tried, so that I have a better idea of...- tireshark

Are the left and right axles the same? I didn't think about it earlier, but the 96 isn't easily moveable right now, and there isn't enough clearance to get the left side out.- tireshark

Will this work? If so should I start with medium, and finish with fine? Use lubricant, or just wrap it around with a shoestring? I'll probably also pull the axle out of the 96 to see what it looks like. Thanks for all your help.- tireshark

I wasn't planning on removing it, but I guess I can take it out since I already have the diff cover off. Are axles able to be resurfaced or anything? If not, do you think the axle in my 96 would work, assuming it's in good condition?- tireshark

95 C1500 2WD Symptom was losing brake fluid. No noises, and the ride was smooth and straight. Had fluid on inside of rear tire, so ordered a wheel cylinder, but when I pulled the drum everything was covered in sludge, both ends of the cylinder were off, the friction material was completely...- tireshark
