You can run a HT383E with factory intake...just need to tune PCM for 383 vs 350 fuel tables. Would be advisable to upgrade your transmission if you haven't also.

As with most everything else, lots of decisions boil down to "what makes the most profit?" - ergo "plastic" materials. Most of the factory distributor is made of plastic - decreases weight, but longevity is severely compromised compared to billet.
