Did not get a chance to get into the engine bay, but we are titled and tagged! NC weighted 10k trailer.

If I have the diesel gauge cluster, I’d need the harness from a 454 truck?

From memory, it idled pretty well and started easily. Under load it would choke and backfire sometimes, I think these are symptoms of an over-rich carb tune. I got about 7 miles from the sellers house when it died while driving once and I got it restarted. The next time it died 1m later, it felt...

Ah nice, that 502 looks built for towing. Regardless, I'll still need to figure out the wiring to the gauge cluster

Yeah, the body and frame are in fantastic shape being a southern truck it's whole life. I guess another question would be which 454 version would make the most sense for a .30 over/cam/carb? Or is that what anyone would throw at a block and the gen doesn't matter?

Trying to match from memory since I will be seeing the truck next on the coming Monday: It looks a lot more like the Mark IV 454 in these pictures https://www.autoevolution.com/news/mark-iv-ls6-454-a-look-back-at-one-of-the-muscle-car-golden-age-s-most-impressive-v8s-229887.html Rather than...

I have been looking at 6.5T crate engines as a backup since that would be an easier replacement, maybe a better 454 done right. It does come down to the state of the fuel system. I ran the carfax out of curiosity and it's lived it's whole 4 owner life in North and South Carolina so that explains...

Yeah, I'll have to start with block numbers and go from there. This definitely seems like it'll need some legwork from myself to tie a bow on it.

Nah, not that I can tell. I don't think PO was the swapper, they just threw a carb and MSD distributor at it.

A 454 with cam and .30 bore, that's about all I got till I get more pictures.

When I was looking at the engine bay picking it up, the carb definitely had Holley embossed on it. It was shiny too, like this one: https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/street/parts/0-80508S

You know, I have a thought now. The 454 in the truck currently is an orange block and valve covers. I'll have to get the serial to confirm, but I wonder if it's not a truck based 454 swap? I mean, anyone can rattle can orange an engine in a swap context, but still it's interesting. Did the...

Hmm yeah that looks like something I’ll need to get pictures of as soon as I get it back. If that is still intact, I wonder if it’s a good candidate for a Holley Sniper EFI? American V8s are not my forte so I have a lot to learn here. From the ad: 1993 chevy 3500 (454) Bored .30 over...

Thinking GMT400 3500 Dually for Track Day Towing, Thoughts?

I’ll have to get my hands back on the truck to know for sure so it’s all speculative at the moment. From my conversation with the seller, it’s a 454 bored .30 over, mild cam, new distributor and wires, new spark plugs, Holley carb (did not get the model), with an aftermarket tach on the dash...
