My buddy has a rollback that had a 6.5l. It broke the crank so we dropped a 12 valve in it. Of course the same guy bought a beat to death power company truck at auction with an LML Duramax. It needed head gaskets so we did that and about a year later it broke the crank. We pull it check...
I'm going to crawl through it at some point and see what it needs. Hopefully it's not rotten. The Bravo outdrive and 6 lug 5k axles, not to mention the big block are good scores if it ends up getting parted out.
Friday night took home a free boat. 21' Baja Hammer, 7.4l weighs #3500 dry, didn't realize until later the bilge plug hole was blocked and it was full of water.
You need a momentary switch and wire up a latching relay. I changed the wiring in the valvebody on mine so the lockup solenoid is grounded to the case. I've got a nitrous/transbrake momentary switch on my shift lever and when I tap it I have converter lock in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, that turns off...
You're on the right track. I've seen the check ball worn through and stuck in the seperator plate before. If it blew through the hole you'd have an enormous feed to the servo.

And they're almost impossible to find for sale. The folks at the place I rented mine said they have a patent on them and they get shredded when they reach the end of their life.
Went to the 1/8 mile drag strip with a buddy from work. He's got a built Audi S4. My truck ran a 9.5@74 to his 10.0@70. He broke his timing belt on the third pass so after getting drug by me on the track, He had to get drug by me an hour back to the shop on a u-haul trailer.
It's easy to make rails. When I decided to go with the much shorter Dodge injectors for my Pro Flow 3500, the stock rails and pipes went in the dumpster.
A little math, a lot of measuring, some big taps, drills and sand rolls and you can make anything you like.
Just a stodgy '89 with a little heat under the hood. It was traded to me for some work and didn't run. I pulled the sludged up tbi 350 and dropped in an old race motor I had for another car but never used.
