    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

Some good info. I do need to read about the front brake swap more... And I need to tear into an axle. I should tear apart one on the way to the crusher just to study it. I know of the NBS master cylinder swap, but did not think of including it here. But I also seen disc brake swaps without any...

    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

I really need to find out more NBS axles... fast! I have a 97 and 98 k2500, both 8600 GVWR, equipped with 5.7, NV4500, and 3.73 8 lug 14bolt Full Floaters... with drums. The 97 has G80, the 98 does not. I was offered a deal of some leftover parts from 02-06 diesel 8 lug GM trucks. This...

    ID tubular heavy duty bumper

spotted this thick bumper on a 1500 z71 at the local yard. Who made this? Can it be installed on a 98 k2500? Notice the hitch receiver below and separate. Would this clear my k2500 hitch receiver? I kind of think it would look good mounted through a roll pan... Any of your own thoughts...

    Reel light location

Just a reminder that the firewall light is a different design than the TBI era light... same light design but with much larger mounting tabs. THe lights were offset from the dimples. I cannot check at this moment, but can someone review the 1996 wiring diagram and see where power comes from...

    Reel light location

I identified 4 OBSs that had the firewall reel light. On the three that were intact enough to tell, they also had a seperate underhood lights. ALL WERE 1996. There are two separate connectors coming from the main harness to each light in those 96s. Also, 3 of the 4 had the underhood box...

    Caliper Piston Leaking

well... I was going to comment on the joys of crappy calipers, such as we should be fortunate to have calipers that utilize metal pistons and not composite ones, like I have personally dealt with on fords and Chryslers.... which are prone to deforming, cracking, and seizing. Even my dad's 72...

how important are cv axles if your front differential doesn't work ?

I did the same on a powertrain-less FWD body shell I own. Someday I will fix it into the fine FWD convertible it should be... it is now sitting at year 20. $#!% These hubs are held together by the tension of the CV nut.

    Torsion screw mystery

hmm. my k2500 with oversized front tires rubs only the left front when I do the same sharp right turn. I think the bumper brace is being rubbed, and I was planning to clearance it... I see a rub mark on the outer edge of the tread... First I was planning to "flag it" with some tape to...

    Front diff play

Normal. ??? The shaft is disconnected at both ends with key off and transfer case not engaged in 4anything. It does not rotate in 2wd for example, ergo is "free spinning" when not engaged. If you have a floor shifter you would be engaged at the transfer case only engine off in 4 hi or low...

    Reel light location

I was not clear. The bulb cover does twist off to allow changing the light bulb. However, I was referring to reaching the internals under the bulb. It appears the flat back that the magnet attaches to snaps in place, and I cannot get it open, yet.

Opened up. This one was junk, but I did break the handle. Oops No need to remove the reel handle to open it up, fyi. You can see the brass contact rings centered in the white reel, and the contact arms that connect to them. The grease is congealed. It is held together by two plastic...
