P0785 Shift Solenoid

Which solenoids did you replace? The back two shift solenoids? Code PO785 is for the 3/2 Downshift Solenoid. It is in the front. If you put the right solenoid in, for sure ohm the wire from the PCM to the Transmission. If you need a wire diagram let me know.

Weird 4l80e problem.

Check the brake switch. It would account for no lockup and no cruise. If that isn't it, look at the TPS. But I bet that brake switch is it. The only place the fluid can go is in the radiator if it isn't going on the ground. But.... my bet is the brake switch is stuck on, causing no lockup...

Need Help Tracing VSS Wires

If my memory serves, the buffer is behind the glove compartment. It is a little white box. The speedo wires run to the buffer, then the signal is split from the buffer to the cruise, dash, and PCM. I believe the pigtail you don't know where goes is the 4x4 light switch on top of the transfer...

Dumb questions

Leave the rubber, it is a lube passage. It lubes the rear tailhousing bushing. The bellhousing bolt pattern is different, but I have seen them swapped.

Safe to drive with broken sunshell/sungear?

The shell is on in 2nd and 4th as well as reverse. That is the reason it didn't want to shift. You almost have to lift off the throttle so the throttle position sensor will let it skip over 2nd and get to 3rd. Also don't worry to much about the mysterious friction. That year was hell on...

Safe to drive with broken sunshell/sungear?

Love this post! I have seen people drive around with a stripped shell for months. It will eventually stop the whining after week two they say haha. Are you doing a full build or just a shell and seals? That's a nice looking ride.
