do any of the the cold air intakes work?

I tried the K&N FIPK intake on my '97 Silverado with 5.7l, and gave up trying to keep it attached to the throttle body with those lame screw clamps. Add to that the open box, under hood, and I seriously doubt that I achieved anything more than louder sound. I could have saved $250 and just taken...
