How to spruce up these old rims

The clear coat is shot, but I'd say there's a fair bit of oxidation on the aluminum where it's exposed, too. A coat of paint would sure help, but all that unevenness would come right through the paint without taking the time for a good sanding. They'd look good with the faces polished and the...

    Improved handling

If the truck feels a little too tail happy as you've described, it should feel more neutral with a stronger front bar. I think you're on the right track to put the solid front bar on.

Welcome, @BlueManLou . I'm in Tidewater Virginia now, but I spent a lot of my life living in Des Moines and grew up south of Council Bluffs.

Decided to build a garage. Now the fun begins.

Looks good, and I agree with your desire to not let excess light scatter into the sky. At our family farm back in Iowa, there are no lights which are on when they aren't needed. I love looking up into the night sky there. It's quite remarkable to be in such darkness.

    Little Shop Disc Break Conversion

Will any upgraded disk brake system stop your vehicle "faster?" Technically no, as long as it can provide adequate clamping force to lock the wheels. Tires are the limiting factor. What better brakes can give you is better pedal feel, which in turn gives you better ability to modulate at the...

    Can mount replacement issue

You've described a door that doesn't fit the frame properly when it's latched. Sure sounds like you've changed the shape of the door frames. I don't know how to fix that except to figure out where to cut it back apart, shift things around until the door fits properly, and weld it back up again...

    Quieter upgrade?

Even if you have to cut it up and splice in an extra bend or something, that looks to me like a fantastic plan. The cats are so close to the exhaust ports, you should easily be able to pass a sniffer test if you should have need of it one day.

    Quieter upgrade?

Honestly, I don't think the legalities are all that hard. Unlike the coal rollers, no one is going to bust you and confiscate your 35 year old vehicle if you made an effort to keep a catalyst on it. Or two. You'll use one slightly larger one or two slightly smaller ones, so the mass won't make...

    Teach me BASIC ecm....

You'll want to follow the instructions carefully on the TV cable adjustment. Not that it's difficult, but it's critical to proper transmission functioning...and lifespan.

    Cat or no Cat?

Another vote to keep a cat in the system. Aftermarket, high flow cats aren't ridiculously expensive, they flow plenty for the application, and they'll keep you legal. Coal rolling diesels are endangering the ability of everyone to modify their vehicles responsibly. No sense in asking for legal...

    Driveshaft angle .......

Those were remarkable boats. The age of Allison-engined hydroplanes was when I was just growing up. The transmission tailshaft and diff should have equal and opposite angles. Or rear end of the front driveshaft and diff in the case of a two piece driveshaft with carrier bearing. If they don't...
