First off, know that by removing your cats, your truck will not pass emissions testing. But if you want to remove your cats, or you have already, here is how to trick the rear 02 sensors, so that you don't need to reprogram the ECM. click the web sight and you can order these, http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/mini-cat-cel-fix.html or you can do what I did and build your own. I used 4 sparkplug non foulers. I took the honey comb that I removed from my cats. I used a hack saw, and a bench grinder to make the honey comb fit into the spark plug non fouler. If you do this, use a dust mask, or even better a respirator, grinding the honey comb makes a lot of dust. Also if you pull the hack saw to ruff cut the honey comb, it works better. If you try to push the saw, its to aggressive, and the honey comb is brittle. The little pieces of honey comb you need, will need to fit between the 02 sensor and the non fouler, that is next to the exhaust pipe, inside the non fouler, it will look like the pic on the web sight where you can buy them. They will need to be about 1/2 thick, and need to fit just slightly loose. You don't want to crush the honey comb when you put the 2 non foulers together. It will crumble and not work. Also be sure that the honey comb is not clogged up. I just used my breath to blow the honey comb clean once I got it to fit inside the non fouler. This gives the rear 02 sensor what it is looking for, it thinks there is still a cat.

Next time try the non-fouler by itself, you may be pleasantly surprised. Run it like that for a while and then consider selling your cats to the scrap man instead of punching them out.

I did try the non foulers by them selfs first. I got a cel within the first mile of driving. This is what happened to me, I am not saying that is always the case.

Some have had luck doing that, guess it's just that - luck of the draw. Good tip either way it ends up working out. :)

Ya know a tune still gives more power. Just sayin. :burnout:
I don't disagree on the tune, but it cost me less than $10 to make the simulators. They have been on my truck for about 2 years now. No CEL. When I gutted my cats, that cost me nothing to do. I gained 1.5 MPGs after gutting the cats, and making my simulators. I am sure you would see the same from this mod with a tune to delete the rear 02 sensors. Also, My access to a good tune shop is limited. So a Jet programmer and this mod was my best option. Maybe one day when and if I do a rebuild on my 5.7L, and do a big cam and head work, then I will do a custom tune, with an EGR delete. Untill then my truck will out run a 5.3L so for now thats good enough.

There are plenty of reputable mail order tuners that will make your truck run like you never dreamed. Mail order stuff works especially well for stock stuff because there are fewer variables. Just like people who never throw down on real brakes or real tires, once they see the light there's no going back once you realize just how much you've been leaving on the table this whole time even bone stock down to exhaust and air filter.

Like I said, I don't disagree with a custom tune in any way. The thing is I already spent $350 on a programmer that I will never get back, and I know that I will do mods in the future, so I am not ready to fork over anothe $300 or so for a custom tune yet. Again like I said, the day is coming when I will do a rebuild on the truck. I know the trans will need to be done in the near future. At that point I will weight my options. I may do a carb swap, and a 700R4 swap IDK yet. I will cross that bridge when I get to it. All the more reason to wate on a tune. I did this post for those who were looking for a way to get rid of there cats without having to do a custom tune. I know this works, because my truck has had them on there for over 2 years, and I never got a CEL. Before I made the simulators, I did get a CEL from the rear 02 sensors. This is a way to beat that CEL. If it is not rite for you, then thats fine, but there are people out there who want this info.
After all isn't that what a forum is all about, sharing info?

The reason I harped on the tune is for what you said below.

This implies (to me) that you feel as though you would not benefit very much from a tune which is not the case. Somebody who may have been on the fence may now be discouraged from getting a tune and having their eyes truly opened. I think your mind would be blown too, it'd be one of those "why did I wait so long to do this?" mods. Nothing against a $10 fix here, I suspect the distance from the exhaust flow has a lot to do with it too.
