Back in the day (here in the UK) when the Yamaha 250 LC was the bike to have for 'learners', a guy decided he didn't like the black painted finish on the (water cooled) cylinders so removed the paint and polished the alloy (removing all the sand cast roughness) and was rewarded with an overheating engine that required new cylinders to rectify.Because black is more efficient at absorbing heat it also more efficient at dissipating heat.

I've always been doubtful that painting your engine block black helps radiate heat, so I did a little bit of reading and it's true - but the effect is very small. The result is something like .1% cooler. Paint your engine how you want.Because black is more efficient at absorbing heat it also more efficient at dissipating heat.
It's a black art...how dose it work is it like wearing something dark or something light ? is there some sort of explanation for slow learns such as myself?
What this looks like on my phone, is the red that Chevrolet used on the 1955 V8(and only that year). I can see a wee bit of orange in it, but not enough to be the Chevy engine orange that we all know and love. That is a red-orange. Hemi Orange is more a straight orange(like Whataburger orange LoL).Well, the deed is done. Not really what I wanted, but I'm sacrificing my true wants in the interest of completion. I'm probably not even painting the firewall black (although, that would be really nice). This is supposed to be a deep red. It looks more orange if you ask me. It's also caliper paint, rated at 900°.

Oh and btw, here's a teaser of what's in the near future. (What's in the box, not the overweight cat.)
