I got a 89 silverado. 2 wheel drive, 8ft bed. My question is, I'm looking for a cluster. It's a budget build truck, now I noticed looking online that the 89 Camaro cluster is close, wondering if I might have to cut the lower part off, and maybe so securing modifications, will it swap to my 89?

Not sure about that swap. However, look into the "Moonies to Needles" swap on here. I've done this to two trucks now. You have to run a wire for the tach signal and swap a few pins on your existing harness, but it's plug and play after that. You might also be able to run a cluster from one of those Top Kick trucks. They have the same interior as the light duty trucks, but slightly different cluster and warning light arrangement. It's been on my list to get one and investigate their compatibility.

Ok will definitely check it out seeing what's out there 800 bucks is outrages

Keep your eyes and ears open. They show up on eBay, so set up a search on eBay to send you emails if one appears.

Too, GMT400 users will post info about eBay listings here (see eBay section) if they spot one. There was a '91 cluster w/ tach that was posted about a month ago.

The swap is easier with the '91 cluster, as noted here.

Getting set to do the same thing in my '89. There are a few things you need to know before jumping into this. It's NOT just a plug-n-play swap. The '89 cars differ from the trucks in the way the VSS talks to the speedometer. Cars use a gear driven VSS, whereas trucks use a reluctor wheel and magnetic sensor (see pics at the bottom). The '89 truck speedometer uses an internal DRAC (speed buffer) to calculate gear ratio/tire size, not sure about the cars. Each truck has a dedicated speedo for its' drive set-up (3:08, 3:42, etc.). I've included some pics of a couple of clusters I may use, ('92 plain speedo, '93 Suburban with tach). They differ with the harness plugs, and some plastic dash cavity rework is needed. Also know that these units both need an external DRAC to function. Because I'm doing an LS swap, my PCM will receive its' trans VSS signal and feed it to the speedometer, so no DRAC is needed.
