I think he knows all that...and went with the heavyass monster because he knows it fits, and has a warranty in case it doesn't actually work.

Perhaps AZ might've also supplied you with an appropriate modern OE replacement PMGR starter; with same warranty etc.Yes, exactly. Life time warranty. Just fire up the new starter. It works grate. Just have to put the heat shield back on, over it. The new starter sounds totally different. Listing to it, compared to the old ones, is night and day. The old one was definitely on its last leg. Also with the new starter, I got it at AutoZone. If I ever have an issue with it, it's only about 1.5 miles from my house. No waiting on a package. Tracking an order, ETC. It wasn't not to bad of a job. I did have to drill a hole on the bell housing so I could check clearance, to see if I needed to shim the new starter. No shims needed. My bell housing is OE, aluminum. A 1/4 inch hole in the bottom, won't hurt a thing. Oh, and thanks for all of the replies guys. I appreciate it. Maybe some of us learned something about GM small block starters. I know I did.
