Hello everyone,
New to this forum, but I have done this recently, just yesterday. I had the classic signs of blower only working on High. In my case, I also had a tapping sound from behind the glove for 30 seconds when ignition was turned on or off, and eventually, a bad bearing in the motor evidenced by rough spinning noise.
That's three separate issues, and I lived with each until the fan completely stopped spinning and I froze last winter.
The tapping was the blend flap actuator. Real pain in the ass to reach the top 7mm bolt, but I swapped it out.
The blower screeching and finally stopping was obviously the blower bearing. Replaced the blower, which was more of a pain than it should have been for a truck. Had to remove the ecu computer in order to peel off the insulated rubber, to then unbolt it and jimmy it out. It's right there. Shouldn't be obstructed, but it is, and just enough.
The blower only working on high was the resistor. Swapping that out is easy, especially with a boxed 7mm wrench or even easier with a ratcheting box wrench.
Now, the heat is absolutely CRANKIN' again.
QUESTION: Is the resistor supposed to glow red hot on the medium setting? I happened to catch a glimpse of that because I tested functionality before completely bolting it down. I understand that the resistor is bypassed on the high setting, and it works hardest on the low setting, but mine glows, and only glows when set to medium...
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
