    Two fer one!

I had done everything I could think of over the last few years, trying to get rid of a stumble on takeoff and stalling at corners when it was cold. Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, new EGR valve, rebuilt the throttle body, new upper temp sensor, etc. Nothing helped much. The intake gaskets were...

    Two fer one!

I finally got around to replacing my intake gaskets on my '90 Silverado this week, and while I was taking it apart, I noticed that my distributor was just a ball of rust inside. I thought that they were more money, but I got a brand new one, with cap and rotor for $69. on line. The off-idle...

#1 cylinder damage from exhaust valve question

The most accurate way to set the valves is to do them one at a time. Rotate the engine until the exhaust just starts opening and set the intake for that cylinder. When the intake opens and just starts closing, do the exhaust for that cylinder. The one full turn is supposed to put the lifter...

I’m a DA…what maintenance have you screwed up?

I had a Blazer that needed a new in-tank fuel pump. I dropped the tank, replaced the pump with a new one, got everything back into place and it wouldn't start. I started thinking to myself, "I DID plug that new pump in, right?". I did not connect the pump INSIDE the tank. To make matters worse...

    Leaking throttle body

I'll clean it up and check this morning. I didn't think about the vent right there.

    Leaking throttle body

I'm finally getting around to replacing my intake gaskets and found this. It looks like it's been leaking for a while. Will a throttle body rebuild kit give me the gaskets and seals to fix it, or is it pooched?

Cab mounts repaired and new polly bushings installed

One thing that I didn't mention. The shop that did the work said that they normally just tighten them down "until they squish a bit". I made sure that they were torqued to 55 ft/lbs with blue locktight, just like the manufacturer recommend. That could play a roll in ride quality too.

Cab mounts repaired and new polly bushings installed

Correct. I found the same. I deliberately hit a few pot holes, no shortage of them here, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it felt.

Cab mounts repaired and new polly bushings installed

It was a little more involved than I first thought, but the truck is solid once more. I knew that at least a couple of mounts were bad, but when we got it into the shop and looked, three cab mounts were bad, two were worse than I thought, and both core support mounts were bad. One quite bad. The...

Thermostatic valves for the TBI Intake

A couple summers ago I was making a dump run and an OPP going the other way pulled a u-turn and came flying up behind the line of traffic I was in and when we all pulled to the shoulder, he came right up behind me and got out. He didn't even ask for my ID, he just started going over my truck. He...

#1 cylinder damage from exhaust valve question

I can't see any way that the valve is not bent. If the head is still off, you can tip that port up and pour some alcohol in it. Even if the valve is just bent a little and you can't see it, the alcohol will run out around the valve if it's not seated.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

It is. The first owner worked at a rustproofing shop and the whole truck is solid. Not sure why the left rear cab mount rusted, but my new mounts will be here today and it will hopefully go in next week and have the cab mount(s) fixed. The shop plasma cuts a plate for the top and welds it on...

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

I looked around here for OEM, but they were about $350 as compared to $129. for the Energy Suspension ones. My truck makes about 3 trips to the lumber yard and a couple to the dump each year. The truck is almost 35 years old and it's just turned 190,00 kilometers,(118,000 miles), so I'm not...

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

LOL Found them too. I'm going to use them with my polly mounts.

    Anti-squeak washers for cab mounts?

Looks like these are called "Body insulators" and were used on the newer trucks. They're still going on mine though. Can't hurt anything. https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/gm-body-insulator-15053229
