can't forget the lubeWas the crankshaft properly lubricated?
Happens all the time on 6.2L and 6.5L diesels. For whatever reason I have seen a few older Eagle cranks break the snout for no explicable reason as well. I did a lot of research prior to building my 383. The reports of crank snouts breaking on Eagle cranks (mostly supercharged builds though) is why I went with Scat. I forget the guys name, but he had a HT383E in a Tahoe that was supercharged. His GM forged HT383E crank failed at the snout spinning a big block whipple on his small block. He went big block in that Tahoe, installed a L29 into it initially. Was my inspiration for the 8100 in mine.A bad balancer or improperly balanced engine will break a crankshaft........what was done or not ?
Eagle cranks have a pretty nasty rep in certain circles. Same story with Mopar SB cranks. Fragile. I'd be temped to dig into this engine and address issues in the op's shoes. Just quite few variables or how stuff was put together as to what was or wasn't done etc. Not familiar with the history. Crate engine/self built etc. Plenty of claims to balanced kits that don't include flexplate and balancer that shouldn't even be called balanced on the market, and plenty throwing this stuff together calling and selling them as crate engines.Happens all the time on 6.2L and 6.5L diesels.
