These guys make the shifter swap easy. Maybe. The ad description says yes, but...
Pic = '95-'98 dash, so...4L60e. Maybe, a 4L80e if it's been swapped.
Neither are cable controlled.
On "E" transmissions, the computer controls everything: TCC lockup, gear changes, shift quality and firmness, and line pressure. There are no external adjustments and no noncomputer workarounds.
Hmmm.

Probably less work than you'd think. The detents are in the trans so you just need to modify the cable mount for the correct travel.
Yes, there's detents in the trans. There's ALSO detents in the shifter. Detent plates are available to convert 3-speed shifters to 4-speed auto overdrive shifters, along with the trim plate with the "OD" marking along with D, L2, L1.

There's heaps of part numbers and more than one manufacturer/seller. Here's one example:

The actual shifter is easy if you can source one. The hard part is to create the design around it. It is difficult to make something like that that blends well with the curves and to make it symmetrical. Unless you work with that kind of stuff everyday, it will take a long time to make it pretty.
