Which EGR valve?

1993 c1500 rcsb, 350 tbi/auto. Got code 32 and confirmed my egr valve is bad.

Trying to determine which one is right; the AcDelco 214-5073 or Delphi eg10099. On rockauto the oem part numbers interchange. I read some reviews on Amazon saying the Delphi unit caused their trucks to run like crap and switching to the AcDelco unit solved their issues. The Delphi unit seems to be more readily available, which is mainly why I’m asking. Anybody have some insight?

Delco vs. Delphi? I wouldn't put money against them being made in the same factory to the same specs.

If the OEM part number crosses to either one... get the one that costs less or is more readily available. I don't think there's any knowing which one is "better" if in fact there is a difference.

Depends on if yours is negative or positive pressure. That Delphi is positive pressure, which may be why the reviews are bad. I have a 94 & it takes a negative pressure one.

Yup. That'd make a difference.

Are you SURE those numbers are correct for your vehicle? I'd research more than one source.

It may be that all TBIs use negative-backpressure EGR valves. My '88 does. A negative packpressure valve, or an ordinary valve can be tested with a vacuum pump. The vacuum will cause the diaphragm and pintle to lift. A positive-backpressure valve will leak when connected to vacuum, until it sees positive exhaust pressure which closes an internal passage.

The OEM valves are identified by an "N" stamped into the top somewhere near the part number. Positive-backpressure valves have a "P" stamped into them, while "ordinary" EGR valves don't have an identifier aside from part number.

Those are correct p/n according to rock auto, advance, autozone and oriellys, and from searching some threads here is how I found the Delphi p/n originally. Although the OP from where I found the Delphi p/n has a 94 2500ld, so not sure on the gvw. From what I’ve gathered I need an under 8500lb valve.

I checked mine out and my port has the pinhole sized hole as well. Safe to assume the 214-5073 would be the correct unit.

I just put a new egr valve today, the one I took off said POS on it but the new one has an N on it, I have a 1990 1500 tbi 5.7 according to this I should have a negative egr valve? Everywhere I look online I can’t find a positive one for my truck I’m wondering if the original owner put the wrong one because the egr solenoid was also unplugged

That's not a question, that's a statement. It's a true statement. You should have a negative backpressure EGR valve.

Delphi # EG10099 is a negative backpressure EGR valve. I've installed several of them (where applicable) and not had any issue with them. The GM # 214-5073 crosses to old # 17113711 which Delphi # EG10099 crosses to as well.
