When/why did buffing a car become "paint correction"?

When places figured out they could charge more for it if they gave it a technical sounding name.

ha ha. When everyone became a technician or associate. I remember one time I was doing some electrical work at a pizza joint and everyone in the kitchen was a technician and every section was a work station

"Paint Correction" and the need for it, is driven by people who purchase the ridicoulus two handled orbiting buffer.
They buy 8 different foam pads and 8 different chemicals and then they go in the garage and jack the clearcoat.
But, the orby pos really doesnt do much but swirl and half cut turds into the clear.
Unless you lean on it then yer just a dope
Then the roll it out in the sun....
And realize how bad it really is.
At that point, it kinda really is "paint correction"
Or maybe a salvage job.
Just because they were too damn cheap or too scared or too ***** use an actual buffer.
