1996 Chevy K2500, ECSB; Vortec 454/4L80E/3.73 on 285s.
With factory black box, tiny 245s and a cheap cat-back when I got it, I averaged 12-13 no matter what. Never towed with it back then so I don't have any idea what that would have been.

Now it's got an 0411; but due to some mechanical issues I'm working to resolve (needs a tune up, lock up kicks in and out of engagement at cruising speeds so RPMS jump around, fuel delivery issues etc.)
I get a whopping 8-9 MPG.
Towing my travel trailer and my open deck trailer result in 8 or 9, no change which is odd.

Last year in July I averaged 15 MPG cruising 75 on an 8 hour round trip to help my brother get his Dodge 3500. Not sure how I managed that.

I've been getting 16-17 mixed driving in town after lowering the truck (L31, 3.42's). It's a lot of ~70mph driving in town highways and ~45 mph on 1 mile blocks for the stop and go portion. Full highway for me is about the same or worse, but that's 80mph out here in central KS with lots of wind. Next time I'm at the pick 'n pull I may have to grab some electric fans and a 411. Then turn on lean burn in HP Tuners to see if it'll do 20mpg.

Cross the border into Kanada, and you will get an increase of MPG. Why you ask? Because our gallons are bigger like our Balls. That is Footballs, to correct the deranged minds out there.

Thanks all who posted. I have done alot of thinking on my build and I think I will go with a 454, Rochester 2/4 jet for now, but may add 1997 up fuel injection later, an SM420 for the first gear of 7.05, using 245/75/16 and run 1:1 @ 2500 rpm with a 3:42 to = 65 MPH, which is what I like to run at. Hoping I get 10 MPH.

99 tahoe vortec 350, 3.73s, 275/55/20 weighing 8000lb ill get about 9-10 city 14 highway
An 8000lb taho? My brothers 96 diesel F-250 loaded down with an 300lb toolbox, not including everything in it, baskets of chains, grill guard, heavy duty bumper, over landing rack weighed somewhere between 8500 and 9500. Also with 4guys in it. I can’t imagine a taho weighing anything near that. My moms stock 7.3excursion weighs about 7000.
