An XJ is what I think I had settled on. Still shopping around on&off. My question had been stock vs built, but that gives me a good insight.

Yup, don't need a road, just enough space to get that big boy through! 6x6 makes my crew cab long bed look tiny!

I wheeled with a kid one time that was on 33s with stock gears, welded lockers and a real small lift. He led the way and that thing surprised me. I bet he had less than 1k in that rig and loved it

Have run it through water over the hood many times.

I take my stock 97 suburban k1500 on 33 KO2 places it doesnt belong and its a hoot. The G80 positraction is excellent.
It's definitely a slow-car-fast mentality and inexpensive enough to not sweat a little body damage on the departure. A modest lift next spring will add a little more capability. Rock bars and a custom rear bumper would complete piece of mind.
Fastest car in the world? A rented Camry with all of the insurance.
