GM refers to the T case as a Transmission in a lot of their literature
I posted earlier in this thread about seeing one from transmission, I just remembered my Ground Strap to Head photo. Sure enough I checked, and this is what I remembered seeing, but as you’ve pointed out, it’s the Transfer Case Vent.

If your reading a section for or about the transfer case, the writers will shorten to transmission within the transfer case section , as it's only about the transfer case.
Read the whole sentence. " Vent , automatic transmission", " Vent, manual transmission. "
" What it is " , then " what it applies to "
The vent for the automatic transmission, 4L60E, 4L80E are both in the same position on top. See item letter " i " .

Here is a pic from a '98 4L60E. The vent is in the same location for most of GM's auto transmissions.

Found the vents on the 85 C10, 10 bolt rear and Th400. No luck on the 92 K1500, 700r4, NP241, 10 bolts. Have had no time to check the K3500, NV4500, BW4470, 14bff, unknown front. If it is not raining tomorrow…

I found mine, it's just flopping around in the engine bay. There's a metal tab on it where it should be fastened to the shroud, so I will do that.

Mine are just plastic dealios that press into the shroud, snap around the hose, and can be released with a screwdriver. There should be a hole in the driver's side of the upper fan shroud.

I'll get a picture of it later. It's definitely the breather because I traced up from the diff to find it. Maybe a 2 door 'Hoe difference from the trucks.
