Not 100% sure on everything, but I do know PassLock started in '98. Also '96-'97 PCMs are slightly different than '98+, the early ones have an extra plug and slightly different wiring IIRC.

Not sure... I'd expect the '96 harness to be a closer match to your '97 than a '98 harness would, but there may be some differences I'm not aware of. I'd wait for someone more informed to chime in before you purchase anything.

I'd be interested in comparing some connector pin outs if I were you. We have some GM service manuals available here, but not all of them you need unfortunately. I know we at least have the '98 manuals available for download. You might try asking over at PerformanceTrucks.net for the other ones, those guys were very helpful to me in the past.

Have you checked car-part.com or row52.com? They index salvage yard inventories across the country. I bet you could find a '97 in a nearby salvage yard to pull a correct harness from.

So can I buy the 96 ignition harness with the key cylinder for my 97 ? And it would fit?

95, is a 1 year only truck. It is the transition year. 95 has TBI, but is similar to the 96 and up trucks in interior appearance. 96, and 97 are very similar, but there were some changes in 97 that are not on any other year, but that also depends on it's product date. Early 97s differ a little from late 97s. 98s have paslock, and maybe late model 97, I'm not sure.

First, the 1996 has 1 air bag, 1997 has 2. 1996 has floor shifter, 1997 you can have a floor shifter or a push button. 1997 push button is one year only with no 4wd auto function. 1997 has no passlock. The 1997 steering column is by itself. The 1995 and 1996 columns look the same but the wiring is different. 1997 started the rear tailgate switch for the barn doors, and there are other subtle differences.
