I've been around here on and off for a little while now, but not put up many pictures or really introduced myself. I'm Joe, living in western Florida for the last 15 years, before that Buffalo and Western NY. Here's the Tahoe that I've owned since 1999 (second owner). It's a 1996 LT 4x4 with the factory tow package.

The odometer reads just shy of 500,000. In truth, it's got about 10,000 more than that, give or take, because the truck has had slightly oversize tires as long as I've had it. GPS tells me my odometer is about 2% low. Anyway, I've put all those miles on between the Great Lakes where it spent the first 11 years, and all over Florida where it's lived since, and everywhere in between, including Quebec and Ontario.

The only major item not original is the transmission. The first lasted 440,000. It had a first gear whine and started a little slip between 1/2, so I decided to replace it with the GM reman unit that comes with a 100,000 mile warranty. The engine has never been out or apart past the intake manifold. The rear axle has had new spider gears, bearings and seals. My philosophy has always been to fix any little detail, no matter how small, as soon as it goes wrong and to always keep it as close as I could to running and driving like when it was new.

I still use it as my main daily driver, though I do have a car (also old now) that I got about 6 years ago to take some load off the Tahoe. I drove it for years doing sales all over Florida, take road trips with it (just did a 200 mile trip yesterday, and will do another one tomorrow), tow my boat and use it for general truck work. Last summer we took it on a 3000 mile round trip up through NY and back.

Anyway, this is a good, helpful group and I'm glad there's a forum like this to help out with these trucks.

These pictures are not great, no cleaning or anything, just as it sits right now...

Thanks. I don't recall ever seeing the 6 seater before in a Suburban or Tahoe. Yeah, that big arm rest in the middle is just a giant solid block, no storage! It sure is comfortable on a long trip to lean on, though. It also makes a good foot rest from the center rear seat when someone else is driving.

Many vehicles could last longer with the care you gave this truck. Hats off to you! Sometimes manufacturers make a product that exceeds their expectations. The 400 series generally was a great truck.
