Vin numbers curiosity of years since we're rounding the circle

I am very curious of how vin numbering works with the year. I remember few years ago when the year was signified by a letter and later a number. I beleave after 2001 it was numbers til 2009 and back to letters in 2010. Imagine the confusion trying to register or do paperwork on a 92. Also wondering if any later model vehicles have twin vins to the elder counterparts.

Its just a continuous cycle from letters to numbers and back but its a big enough gap to not cause confusion

It's not 17 Though, it's much less. Many of the digits are already repeated and have specific meaning. The vehicle numbering is only 6-8 digits. I think this is why we're seeing many more VINs beginning with 4 or 5 instead of them all using 1, for US.

Ive had to learn alot of this since im having to scan or write down vins almost everyday

More interesting stuff. Again as I said is there a remote chance even though it's like getting a lot of that there would be a twin vin somewhere for any vehicle.
