I used an MTG2500 for about twenty years. It was getting flaky, didn't want to boot when cold. But I'd probably still be using it if I hadn't spilled gasoline on the poor thing, and solvent-welded the software cartridges in place.
The MTG is newer/better than the MT, it has rudimentary two-channel Graphing capability. Graphing sensor outputs can be very helpful.
I replaced my MTG2500 with a Solus Pro, software good to 2007 (Version 8.2.) Bought very used from eBay with various vehicle adapters, rechargeable battery and charging station, "Personality Keys", owner's manual on DVDs, and a suitcase to carry it around in. $350 shipped to my door.
The Solus Pro is two generations newer than the MTG; much more powerful in terms of graphing sensor outputs, and retaining memory of previous vehicles. It's still so old that Snap-On has essentially abandoned that platform--NO updates, NO service/repair, NO repair parts. All you can buy for it are the pieces that also fit the newer scan tools.
There are competing brands of scan tools, which I have ZERO experience with. There are software-plus-dongle (or cable) solutions for use with your laptop computer. I have ZERO experience with them.
