All that would be in the downloadable service manuals available from links posted on this site.

I would expect NO RTV Silicone. Probably Anaerobic form-a-gasket (Loctite or Permatex 518, or similar) and perhaps thread-locker on the bolts. Again, that'd be in the service manual.
The drawing is somewhat vague for these pieces:

Thanks for the tip on the anaerobic form-a-gasket, I'll pick some of that up before I squash it back together.

I am hoping to flat tow my 96 k2500 behind my 37ft motorhome. I have the electric transfer case. How would I go about putting it into neutral so I can flat tow/dingy

I guess the right place for this, I have R&R them over the years, but my first 4x4 of my own,

99 k1500 LT. 350/5.7. 4L60e, it has auto 4x4 so I think it's the 246 transfer case, Mexican built if it matters

Was doing oil change and noticed it has a little bit of play in front drive shaft U joints, 246 is a sealed box, wanted to make sure it wasn't going to puke if I pulled it out and drove it for a day to change the U joints, 277 thousand miles still has the injection u joints in front and rear shafts, will be doing rear also, but this is doing front stuff first, already did ball joints, rotors and brakes, wheel bearings and rubber and metal brake lines, did fuel pump and filter after towing from sturgeon Bay Wis to indy, dad bought new, drove back and forth in it, sat for 5 years in the garage, nobody wanted it, I've put 8 thousand on it so far lol

Rebuilding my NP241C case, found my input shaft retaining ring is not fitting tightly. I was able to bend it back into size, but still doesn't fit as tight as it should on the shaft. Any idea where I could get a replacement? Or is this typical, that the input shaft ring doesn't fit tightly?

Interesting. Was it loose as you removed it? Don't recall mine being loose.

You sure it's the correct retaining ring? I know the NP241C has about 8 or so rings, many of which are similar in size.

To be sure of the P/N, will need to know at least the year of the transfer case or truck (assuming it's the original transfer case).

Edit: Part number for the retaining ring (# 51) should be 00682653 (682653). Any GM dealer can obtain it. Also available on eBay.

Thanks. I left it sitting with the shaft, so it definitely was the right one. Nothing else was close. My truck is a 97 two door Tahoe, K1500, 4L60E trans. I could have bent it, but honestly I don't see how, I just opened it enough to remove it. It bent back pretty easy too, so I'm thinking it is not as hard as the one on the output shaft (which broke, starting me down this road).

Sonnax has a fix for the output shaft retaining ring. Are you aware of it?
