I have a stupid question. My 98 grinds goin between 2 n 4. Had to use 4lo in reverse to get truck to move. Before I did axle swap it was churning the front wheels but rears were locked. Truck engages in reverse just fine but will lock up back wheels if it rolls too far in reverse.

And I have a stupid question for your stupid question: is the ratio of the new 14 bolt the same as what it replaced?

3.42 to 3.73. Didn't use 4wd after install. Axles were matching factory before the swap when I was using 4wd to move.

Derr, I see now this was a pre-swap question. It looks like you were spinning a set of wheels when you tried throwing 4wd? That'll grind all day if that's the case. All 4 need to be spinning the same speed for that. 4lo you should be creeping like .5mph again all 4 at the same speed to get it to go. I've had pretty good luck at a stand still as well, just be aware that sometimes you need a little movement for it all to fall into place. I spin the rears on a sheet of ice once, let off and threw 4wd. Boom! There's 4wd. I didn't realize the rears were still spinning when I went for it.

I'm tryin figure out why the rears are locking up or acting like reverse is shot but the fronts engage no problem n spin. Tryin go thru diagnostics before I just send trans to be rebuilt cuz to me it's odd that the rear is havin issues (both axles good) but the front is workin fine. That's why I'm leaning toward transfer case as my next point to investigate before I go to reverse in the trans. It is a 4L80e if that matters.

Was out at my friend's garage last nite n picked his brain a Lil while we hung out n drank. I dunno why I didn't think of this. He said "pull the rear driveshaft n try 4wd. You said reverse engages fine n if it moves then something wrong in the transfer. You've already eliminated the junk 10bolt bein issue."

You're now mismatched front and rear, right? That gives you either a power gear or economy depending on if you rock fwd or rwd.
