All info that I've read says that the first year of the 8.1 was 2001.
The 454s ended in 1999, and for 2000 the only engine for trucks and Subs was the 6.0.
Although, the 5.7s continued for a couple more years in certain vans.
I have a 2000 with a 350....but it’s a GMT400 not a 800

8.1 only came in the 3500HD (GVWR = 15,000 GVWR.) for '01-'02 I believe.

Technically a GMT 400, but not in the 1500/2500/3500s.

Are you talking about the 3500 HD that had the straight leaf suspension and the raised front grille area with the 3 inch filler piece under the grille. We bought a few but none had a 8.1.
We had a few 2000 C3500 GMT400s it they only had Vortec 350s

Anybody have any idea where I can get an 8 lug Full Floater Rear for a 91' C2500, preferably 4.10, I'm in W. TN & am having trouble finding 1 anywhere. Mine has a semi floater, 3.73 rated at 8600. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. wantoo365-gmai.com u guys know the rest, Will be put in in a 91, c2500 long bed, 5.7 TBI, 4L80E 2wd

Well, I've had 3 of the 8,600 GVW trucks, and all of them came with the FF 14bolt, and their was no option code for the FF in the data list.
They were standard equipment, and all were 350s.
Edit; one of them was a GMC, and for some reason it was 8,400 GVW,, but you know, GMCs are supposed to have lock washers on the bolts holding everything together. :rolleyes::)
But, Chevy/GMC have done lots of things over the years that don't show-up in the literature or codes.
I think that in the past a lot of trucks got shipped out the door with whatever stuff they had at the moment on a Friday afternoon.

I have hauled auto parts for 30 yrs & have been in many plants & that is exactly what happens, whatever is handy either on Fri afternoon, or if you run out of parts or are too lazy near end of shift, whatever is handy goes on it. Doesn't matter brand, Ford, Chevy, Dodge or whatever. It all works the same way. Imagine that..........:eek: :( :Big Laugh:

Have looked into swapping a GMT 800 2500 HD/3500 14 bolt 10.5" full float axle? Those are a lot more common nowadays on junkyards. I believe the overall widths are close enough (same widths on 2wd vs 4x4 on those BTW). May have to reposition shock mount/spring pad mount? I don't know if/how brakes would work though. Benefit would be disc brakes.

I found one of those axles with 4.10/G80 for like $180. They usually go for around $300-$400 range around here though.

Have you tried car-part.com? I'm seeing four or five of them with 4.10s within 250 miles of Memphis.

Look up a 2500, it'll give you the option for 4x2, full floating, 4.10 (GT5).
