To do the Ceramic pads or not to do? that is the question.

My 1998 K1500 4wd needs brakes soon. The brakes work ok but a few months ago I had hard stop after a idiot pulled out in front me going about 60. Now when I come to a stop the truck shakes a bit like the rotors are warped. The metallic pads are about worn out and I bought some carquest pro platinium pads for a good price and I'd like to put them on to help w the dust on my wheels. I don't much towing. Would these pads work ok on my truck after they were burnished or should just put organic pads on and rub the dust off my front wheels?

If you're interested in braking performance/shorter stopping distances at all, check out the Raybestos Element3 pads. Specifically the EHT369H. They're a hybrid compound and they do dust a little, but I did some research on this a while back and they're the most aggressive pads I could find. Even more so than track compounds from manufacturers like Hawk and EBC. They had a DOT friction code of GG at the time, it's now been upgraded to HH. The price is right too. I run them on both of my '97s (JB5 brakes on the red truck and JB6 on the Suburban) and I've been very happy with them so far.

I bought these pads for $51 w the discount from advance . I see burnishing the ceramic pads takes about 20 times of braking from 50 to 20, and driving for a minute or so again and again. The only way I can do that around me would be doing in it the middle of the night. I'd would hope they would last for a few or 4 years. I might look into the EHT369H if they work better and last longer.

I’ve found them to be great as well.
I actually upgraded to one of their pads YEARS ago when I was towing an autox car a bunch with a k1500. I found they performed better than the Hawk alternatives I had used.

Years later I have the same pads you mentioned waiting to go in my K3500 project.
Also installed them on a K1500 DD and they are excellent.

I highly recommend

X2 on Akebonos.
Also those carquest pads he bought are probably the same as the Raybestos ones. Might save some money returning them and buying off Rock Auto though.
